"a stitch in time saves nine " and "make hay while the sun shines" . I remember these two from the old days.

I have heard that saying plenty of times, jer31558, and almost always from people who are speaking out against doing things for people. In my experiences it has always been a "christian" who doesn't want to help someone in need, saying that teaching them is better than helping. I always wondered why then Jesus said that if a man asks for you coat to give him your shirt as well rather than teach him to sew his own clothes...Just something to think about.
As for old sayings, I usually wonder where they originated and why.

anyone who uses this statement as a way of not helping others is definitely going aginst the rules because in my opinions it means that you help and also equip them with the things they need to become helpers to others so that by so doing the goodness will be multiplied and more people will be reached so tha you also will move on to help others

i want to say that it is only a man who is seriuos that you teach to fish and you dont have to give fish again,i sauid this because i know a certain man who was given money to start a business twice by his elder brother,he squanderred the money both times ,he is back begging to be fed by the same brother ,what will you say about that?another saying i think is relevant is "it is insanity to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result"i hope this meets your requirements?

I heard it when i watch the movie of Jennifer Garner; "Catch and Release" (2007). The set when the word is saying is when they go fishing.
