the rich kids in our school are always bragging about their new cellphones, which they change every 2 months or so. i mean, is it really necessary to change the unit? what's important is that we could communicate with other people, right?
what do you think?

First of all, they're rude and inconsiderate to brag. Secondly, if they need all this stuff to feel important, they may very well be insecure. You are absolutely right, the important thing is to have the ability to communicate. It's fun to talk to friends, let relatives know your whereabouts and what you're doing - they may be worrying. Changing the phones so often is a total extravagance. I can think of so many ways to spend that money that would be beneficial. You probably can't change them, but you can be yourself and do what you think.

i totally agree! it doesn't make them better people if they brag about their stuff. it just makes them look bad.

I'm signed up with verizion for their new every 2 plan. Just means if I stay with them, I get new phones every 2yrs for free when I renew my contract with them. This winter, we will be getting our 2 free phones again. I then donate the old ones to the women's shelter here in my county.

I used to be particular with my phone model. Not anymore. I notice that phone models keep changing almost every day that it has become difficult to track them already. So I gave up and became contented with a motorola that is not only effective but stylish as well. I agree with you, if it serves your purpose, your phone unit will stay with you for a long time.

My first cellphone that I got in highschool I had for about 4 years, so that means I don't change my phone often. I keep my phone until it starts to stop functioning and then I change them, but that is only after my contract with the phone company is up. I see no point to constantly change phones. After all, it's a helper, not a fashion statement.

I usually only change my cell phone about once every two years. My cell phone contract lasts for two years, so I just replace it whenever I renew the contract, and that way I always get a free upgrade to a nicer phone. I'd much rather just wait and get a really good deal on one that way and not fuss with it the rest of the time. I don't really mind whether or not I have the really fancy phones, and usually the ones I get with my upgrade are really nice anyway. I figure as long as my cell phone is holding up pretty well and stil working nicely, then I don't really feel like I need a new one. After a couple years, then I kind of start to need a new one since it starts to wear out, so that timing works pretty well for me.

Sure I do, like once every few years lol.
It is actually very long a period judging by the average turnaround time here.
2 months or so? Yes, those are really rich brats who probably are too money-stupid or values-deficient or simply that they have too rich or indulging parents.

Dear friend,
I do not change most often but if my phone gets outdated with the required I need most I would change it.I changed my old for about last 3 years as I could afford one which has cameras and other features which I would use frequently. Hope I would use this for more duration until my requirement also changes and also according the price I feel more satisfied. Any how I hope it is coping with the advancement of technology and the facilities that one get attracted may make to change phones frequently.

funny i used to be like that,i just love to change my phones every 5 months or there abouts but i discovered that this new ones soon become old as new models are coming out almost on weekly basis, and since am after performance and function i have stuck to just two phones for now,Nokia and sony erriccson, they give me whatever i need in a phone and i dont see the need to change them unless they become faulty, changing phones regularly is an unnecessary waste of money

I think the usual reason why some people often change their cps is because of the new features the new cps offer. Me, I use my cp for its most basic uses -call and txt for communication and thats also the reason why I don't change my cp very often. It's only until I see some defects that I'll replace it. I don't care much about other features though for others that would real cool. That's alright as long as they can afford it, right?
