Should we be nice when asking for something?

Don't you think that if one wants something from another person, one has to ask for it properly??? The other day i was enjoying my cigarette and my break outside of work, taking in fresh air and sun when that guy just popped out of nowhere about 300 feet away.So he yelled at me "Hey,you!" which i rightfully ignored,so he shouted that same "greeting" 3 or 4 more times. After that it was "Hey,you! You got a cigarette?"(without moving a step closer). Then i almost snapped and told him that yes,i had a cigarette and yes,i did not mind giving him one but if he really needed it he had to come closer himself. Was that bad of me?:) Now,i'm not famous(or infamous) for having bad attitude but if i need anything from you,i'll take the matters in my own hands and ask for it nicely:) That leads to another topic-do you think it is polite to yell at people from a distance?Unless,of course, you're just saying hi.

I think that is awful..I would never ask for something from somebody being totally rude like that... what's the saying - you attract more bees with honey than with vinegar?

We should be pleasant and kindly in our dealing with others as when we ask for something from someone we are expecting a favor so please and thank you would apply nicely. Dont we all want to be thanked when we have done a favor for another person?" Of course we do. The golden rule do unto others as you would have them do unto you. live by it.
