both. CVV is Card Verification Value code and CVC is Card Verification code. It just all depends on the vendors and/or the card company. VISA refers to the code as CVV2, MasterCard calls it CVC2, and American Express calls it CID (Credit Card Identification Number). This extra control has been introduced to increase safety with internet payments. The control number is a three-digit number, typically the last three digits in a row and they are printed on the back of all VISA, Eurocard, MasterCards and Diners cards (not American Express). PDC will check that the information on the card number, expiration date and control number are from the same credit card. American Express puts the CID on the front of the card above the card number. Hope this helps!
