Do you remember what it felt like to be a newbie?

Not that I have that many posts in comparison to many, but after only a few months on mylot I feel like I've been here quite a while. I have established a good circle of friends and feel comfortable in what I post. I still remember what it felt like to be a new member of this site, however, with alot of unanswered questions, fear of posting discussions that perhaps no one would respond to and would get my feelings hurt easily if someone responded to me with an opinion that differed from my own. I still learn new things about the site all the time, but I don't worry about whether or not I receive responses because I have learned to post topics people generally are interested in replying to and my feelings don't get hurt as easily because I recognize now that there are valid opinions that differ from my own. Do you remember what you were feeling when you first joined this site and how does it differ from how you feel now?

Yes I remember how confusing it seemed to be when I first joined. That's why I never mind answering newbie questions. There are answers to be found in FAQ and in the myLot link at the top of the page, but so much you have to find out for yourself or to learn from other members. I remember when I reached one hundred posts and my star appeared. I had no idea what it was. I only learned about rating then. I am still learning things about myLot. I remember when 1000 posts seemed like a huge amount and I did not think I would reach it for a long time. I thought it would take months to get minimum payout. I was wrong about both of those.

The 1000 posts just kind of creeps up on you doesn't it? I learn something new about this site whenever I post a discussion under the mylot heading. I love to post discussions on the subject, because it helps me to learn from members more experienced than I.

Back then it seemed like the pay out was a little higher but any fluctuation in earnings generally doesn't bother me. Being a newbie wasn't all that bad back then and there were a lot less scammers and people that posted ripped info from other sites.

How long have you belonged to this site? I've been here a year, about 6 months actively and it does seem like the last few months have been plagued with trouble.

Oh I remember how it felt only too well k honey! I wasn't sure whether my responses were ok or what people wanted to hear or if they wanted to hear what I posted etc! It was quite daunting as I had never been on a site like this before and had no idea what I was doing! I feel much more settled and less nervous now! I should hope so after over a year here LOL I don't know what I would do without this place now - it is like it is a huge part of my life! xxx

As you can see I am really a newbie, I have about 20 posts!!I think I am enjoying it but I am really not sure about how it works. Dare I said that I read the comments on your post that was taken off. I am not sure what thats about, something to do with the stars? Please do not put yourself in jeapody by telling me if it means you willbe removed!!I dont understand that.I am also really unsure about the way to make friends. How does that work and what do you do, I would like to connect a little more with people and see how that goes. I agree with you that i would prefer to put posts up that are interesting and useful. I would also like to ask you something.years ago i used to be an Interior Designer and was a consultant for several big companies Dulux being one of them. They asked me to write and design an interior design pack that was sold for tow hundred UK pounds, pretty pricey. Anyway I gave up that work and trained in Ayurveda and now I am building my clinic and shop etc. But the company have just contacted me and they have about 500 interior design packs and they want to give them to me at cost prices. I had an idea to offer them free to My Lot people in return for them giving me 10 of their friends emails who may be interested in health and Ayurveda and having a newsletter sent them. This way I could build a list and people would have a fantastic Interior Pack with 5 books and 10 subjects. People would have tompay their own postage but otherwise it would be free. What do you think and would it be allowed? Thanks for being on this site, I hope to connect often

Many thanks for that - it was just an idea. What if i just offered them free to people who could use them and give to charities or schools , do you think that would be a problem?

Well back then I didn’t know anybody, felt really lost in myLot, and wondered about what discussion to start, would they respond or not, and wondered if I could really make some good responses towards the others’ discussions. Back then I was the one seeking for friend list approval. :P I didn’t know about the usage of the notification for friends’ discussion feature and I was confused about the earning rates, and how myLot actually worked. But no matter how few my discussions’ responses, I kept posting my responses to the other myLotters here. And well, I’m glad I have met a lot of friendly members here that are really interested in reading and posting opinions, sharing information, and dropping me some useful advices and giving me some good contribution. So I know that it just takes time, and when I compare it to the current situation I experience in myLot nowadays, I think I’m glad that I’m staying in myLot.

Yeah I still remember how I felt when I first joined MyLot. I use to think that I would make lots of money just sitting on my computer, answering and posting discussions. Unfortunately something that hasn't differed is how many people answer my post. I only get 1-3 answers in the discussions I post. Hopefully sometime soon that will change.

Yes I think I do remember what it felt like to be a newbie. It was pretty exciting but kind of a little confusing not knowing everything and all as you do when you are new at anything. It is great though that you are able to quickly pick up the pieces and people here are so friendly that they do offer you a life line when you need it. I see many newbies ask newbie type questions and I think I was one of them and probably am still learning to some degree too but it is all good. I respect everyone here and understand we all have different views on things, that is okay with me and is actually why it is so much fun because we are all so different.

Oh yes I remember it well. I think I posted a discussion to introduce myself and to say I was new and tentatively thanked everyone that replied and then gradually wrote more than a couple of lines in responses to discussions until I became confident enough to write more and then to start more. Initally I think I only used to get a couple of responses and if I got more than four I would just be so so excited but now I just don't worry some flow some don't but I just keep posting and respnding and having fun and like you I feel like I have been here forever but it is in fact only three months! I feel part of the myLot community now. Ellie :D

Yes, I do. It was confusing at first since I really have no idea what its all about. So as a start, I was just sort of standing by and reading from different post and trying to comprehend how everything goes. I started out with my first post and good thing is, people in myLot are very supportive. I then started to make friends and now, its much more comfortable and fun!

I am still pretty new as Ihave only been here about six weeks. but the first week or so was a struggle and I found it hard to bring up discussions that had any real meanings. and my feelings still give me problems at times as I look at that sicklywhite star 7 after having been nine and ten for a long while. But I am getting more self confidence now and am having fun too. Also I have had only one discussion that nobody answered and several with a lot of responses so that makes me feel better.

Without any intention or aim somehow I joined MyLot. Initially I felt nothing. But I now I like to spent more time with my MyLot friends. They are great.

That was so long ago. Let me think. Oh my first day was fun. I found out I couldnt copy and paste. lol. I didn't know anyone but the people were all nice to me. I remember my grand illusion was posting 100 a day to discussions. Yeah right!! That lasted about three days lol Then it was 50 then 30 and now its whatever I feel like, maybe one or maybe 20 lol. I do still love mylot. I get to actually think and use parts of my brain I didnt even know i had. lol I also made lots of friends here.

I was at a loss what to do when I was a newbie here. I posted simple questions and at that time I thought it's unique but I was wrong I am glad that I received replies and meet some good friends here.

Gosh yes. I knew no one. I had no friends and wasn't too sure what I could do or not do. Very quickly though people started to "talk" to me and ask me to be their friend. People were generally very supportive of my efforts to write something useful and interesting and I found that I was gathering confidence. I posted a discussion about the etiquette of asking people to be a friend and I was inundated with requests. I have 9 pages now! One of my first friends was you, and I am thrilled that you still are. I got flamed in my early days, by someone who is now a friend! We haven't fallen out again. The best bit though, for me, I don't know about others, is that I very rapidly gathered a group of friends who I miss when I am away, and who have freely given me so much love and support. That friendship has made me a much better person.

I joined 3 months back and liked the members here as they are very friendly. It has become an internal bond with few caring members though we'll never meet them physically. Yeah we get so many new ideas from the experienced members from all round the globe which would have been otherwise impossible.
