You could reduce the amount he eats and maybe get him to do more exercise but if you take a visit to your vet they will be best advised on how to help your dog lose weight and keep healthy

Feed him good health food no people food and don't over feed him. Take him out regularly even if he doesn't want to. Seek advice from a professional ... cause I would say hang a stick from his collar and tie a porkchop to it and put him on a treadmill. :P

..hang a stick from his collar and tie a porkchop to it and put him on a treadmill. That is a good one that, believe it or not, actually works for some dogs. Just remember, thou..let him have it at the end of his exercise session or he will quickly catch on and not bother trying to get it later on.

You could start by getting him to chase after something for a few meters and then gradually extend the distance to a few hundred meters. Build up his physical activity gradually and try to make it entertaining for him. However, take him to a vet to make sure that he's healthy and that the lethargy is not due to a medical complication. you don't wanna force a sick pooch to work out, do you?

Do you play with your dog, like thowing the ball so he runs after it? Do you take him for long walks? Some dogs won't do anything unless they are motivated. The fatter a dog gets, the less likely they will want to do any form of exercise. Take him for long walks at least a few times a week, daily is best thou. If he has any fave toys, play fetch with him or tug-of-war. Have him chase you to get his toy. You can't just sit there and expect him to exercise himself.
