I have read on the news about some people running these scams in Jamaica who were arrested by the police. It appears that the number of people who have been scammed by this type has prodded the police to start an international investigation. When you've been on the net a few years you tend to dismiss these scams as nuisance and nothing more. Thinking that there might be something to it is what will cause you trouble.

You would be surprized to find out how many people fall for that junk. But some people don`t like to watch the news,so they don`t hear about certain scams.

These are actually spams. There are a lot of programs out there that generates thousands of emails. Despite the low turn out, a lot of spammers are actually earning from these things by decieving individuals and asking them to put up certain amount of money wherein there is no corresponding advantage to the costumer. In the end, you will lose your money and end up with nothing. In other cases, they may also carry viruses that will infect your computer. So, never beleive those emails and do not reply. This would be the safest way.

Oldest scam in the book. These dirtbags are like cockroaches, you can't get rid of them. Don't even open them up, just Delete as soon as you see them.

I too, am a rich woman, having "won" many lotteries and having an "inheritance" left to me by some unknown relative. On a lark, I responded to one of them, and if I would just send several thousand dollars they would ship a car to me from England and several million pounds. When I told them I would send the shipping fees when I received the cheque, they told me that wasn't possible and lowered the amount to several hundred dollars. Anyway, to make a long story short, I didn't receive my cheque, they didn't receive my money or my bank account information and I didn't get scammed. Moral of the story "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
My concern is with those poor souls who believe these people. My mother-in-law told us she had won several thousand pounds. When asked how, she didn't know, but she would share it with us when she received it. We made sure she had not given them any of her account information and stressed to her not to do this. How and why this type of scamming is allowed to carry on is beyond my comprehension and I feel sorry for those who have fallen for it and have lost money because of it.
