For those that actually believe the nonsense Al Gore has been spew, I have a question why do you come on MyLot. To come on MyLot us must first turn on your computer with uses electricity which come from what folks fossil fuels. While you are on MyLot you use fossil fuels. Do you actually think the electricity that is used to power your computer does not increase your carbon footprint. So please if you think man is responsible for global warming, do not come onto MyLot and tell me that I should care about the planet when you do nothing.

When I do nothing? That's an arrogant assumption. I turn off electrical appliances after I'm done using them, I recycle, I take public transportation, I use recycled paper, I don't litter. I try my best to do small contributions. I find it odd that you believe Global Warming is just a hype, but I won't get into that. Anyways, why do I still use my computer? Because obviously, I'm not going to cease using technology while it can still can. Imagine if I changed your question a bit and asked, "Why don't all religious people devote their entire life to God?" The answers I'd get would probably most often be, "Because I want to live out my life on Earth while I still can." Do you get the connections I'm trying to get at here? There is indeed a problem, Global Warming. You could interpret the fact that we still use materials that cause GW selfish, but we're obviously not going to stop ourselves from using technology. As soon as affordable replacements are put into place, I'll definitely hop right on the bandwagon and use those. For now, I do want to use things that come to my benefit, such as a computer.

Please keep believing that you actually can stop the Global Warming. If you believe that us human that have only been on this Earth for a fraction of the time that this planet has had live on it can some how control the temperature, you must think you are a "God". How arrogant you are to think that you are doing the world some good because you ride public transportation, and recycling. What are you going to say when the Earth starts cooling again? One volcano puts out more CO2 than all of the cars on the Earth, what should we do about them? When there was global warming before human had cars, what created global warming? Why do not climatologist, how actually study climates, believe that the Earth is warming.

That I can stop Global Warming? Of course I can't. If everyone used that type of simplistic reasoning, we'd be getting nowhere. Can I "control" temperature? Once again, of course not. Can I take part in reducing the effects of Global Warming? In a way, yes. My contribution may be of 0,00001% but it's still there and I'm happy to participate in any way I can. Now, it's actually quite funny you bring out the volcano statement. It seems to be quite a motivation for those who just don't want to do anything about Global Warming, or joyfully refuse the evidence. Unfortunately, that very assertion is debatable. I actually found someone on Yahoo Answers who gave an interesting response about this; http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volcanowatch/2007/07_02_15.html "Scientists have calculated that volcanoes emit between about 130-230 million tonnes (145-255 million tons) of CO2 into the atmosphere every year (Gerlach, 1999, 1991). This estimate includes both subaerial and submarine volcanoes, about in equal amounts. Emissions of CO2 by human activities, including fossil fuel burning, cement production, and gas flaring, amount to about 27 billion tonnes per year (30 billion tons) [ ( Marland, et al., 2006) - The reference gives the amount of released carbon (C), rather than CO2, through 2003.]. Human activities release more than 130 times the amount of CO2 emitted by volcanoes--the equivalent of more than 8,000 additional volcanoes like Kilauea (Kilauea emits about 3.3 million tonnes/year)! (Gerlach et. al., 2002)" http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/Hazards/What/VolGas/volgas.html As for climatologists not believing in Global Warming, wouldn't that percentage of climatologists lie below the 10% bar? Find me a reliable statistics site which can show me a majority of certified climatologists refute Global Warming and I'll be amazed. I just find it shocking that people can still question it's happening when climatologists, people with waaaay more knowledge on the subject than us, have reviewed the situation over and over again and can easily state that it's happening and human activity does play a major part in it. It seems those who don't believe in it either fear it or don't have reasonable knowledge on the subject. Well, those are my two cents there. Hope I made my points clear. PS: Would I be correct if I assumed you negative rated me for my response? :P

It sounds like mylotters are guilty of increasing global warming. At least at mylot we get some income that we can use to spend for what we need and want. Some people use the internet only to goof around. They play online games, watch movies one after another and eat lots of junk foods.

We have the classic confusion here that waste and re-cycling has something to do with global warming. Waste is something we should all try to reduce and man can do something about it. Global warming is happening regardless of man and we can do nothing about it. The forces involved are way beyond our control or influence.

Eh? Had a discussion like this one. While the jury (sigh... "my" jury) is still out on man-made change, natural variables are out there and numerous (volcanoes, deep sea trenches, greenhouse effects). There are also other planetary variables that have influenced climate throughout Earth's charted history. Additionally, Earth's climate and environment has ranged from a poisonous atmosphere with incredibly higher temperatures (Hadean eon); more tolerable but not that inhabitable for most current life (Mesozoic eon, Jurassic era); to various ice ages across the world; to the present environment. There is no argument though that the emissions and pollution are bad for the planet and our own health. Its a necessary demon, but societies are working on methods of reversing all of this. Personal life, there shouldn't be commands on individual life or fear, people should be allowed to make their own choices and come to their own conclusions. Oh before I forget the discussion question. I'll not be staying off mylot or anything. If people think I'm not doing enough... to hell with them.

Well, we can say that some of what Gore speaks of is true and supported by some rather intelligent individuals. We can say that obviously, anyone that supports the oil industry (Bush and Chenny administration) would not support any changes to harm the great amounts of income going into the pocket of those that take this money from the hard working american....and make record profits as the american people are suffering. I am not sure what big industry Gore is supporting or which ones fill his pockets but we all know Bush is up close and personal with the oil companies which are making RECORD profits. We can all see changes are happening in our world and we an all agree that these changes could cause sever harm to life on this planet. Now, we can continue to spend Trillions on a war based on known lies and killing people or we could spend just a fraction of that on ensuring we are taking steps to make this planet better and safer for our children. I personally would invest the money in saving and not killing. But then again, Bush wouldn't agree because his administration is also in bed with the military machines that are making record profits and raking the american tax payer over the coals as well. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that with a limit environmental system, one can only do so much damage (adding toxins) before things start to go wrong. I personally believe our system on earth goes through a cycle but that man clearly contributes and increase the effects on all. An intelligent race of people would do everything they could to preserve and improve the environment for which their kids are living. Peace

Watch out, you're bound to have a horde of Bushites (that is what they're called, right?) coming your way to bash you for being "too liberal." Or heck, wait, a socialist! A Marxist! Or maybe one of those arrogant foreigners... (The above is a caricature of the type of behavior that has been directed at me during my stay on myLot. Just warning you before you take their insults too seriously.)

Global warming is a completely natural cycle. Even if humans are contributing, it is extremely minimal and has no effect on earth's temperature. Earth's climate is always changing, whether mankind is polluting or not. Let's look at the medieval warm period for example. Temperatures then were very high, even higher than they are now. Yet people prospered during this time. And guess what? Earth's temperature went back down again. Did you know that the media only recently abandoned their theory of global cooling? None of what Al Gore and the media says is truthful. Most of Antartica is actually getting colder. The environmentalists don't tell you about this though. Al Gore warns people of 20 ft sea level rises yet history has shown that earth's seas continually rise at a slow, steady rate. A little while ago the environmentalists produced a graph known as he hockey stick graph. The end of the graph represented the sharp rise in earth's temperature as man-made emissions rose. THis graph has been proven wrong time and time again. Another fault in environmentalist claims. Did you know that changes in the sun correlate more to earth's climate than carbon dioxide levels do? THe answer lies here: global warming is a natural process. Carbon dioxide cannot be causing global warming. In the 1900s when human emissions were rising, earth's temperature actually dropped. If warmings have occured in the past when humans weren't polluting, then how could they be caused by emmissions. Earth;s climate is always changing, whether mankind is there or not. So don't tell me to pollute less when humans aren't contributing to global warming.

Electricity plays it's part towards adding to the pollution on this planet, but there are many other contributary factors and more serious ones. One of the biggest problems is the volume of traffic on the roads nowadays, but US politicains are reticent to tackle that issue due to the unpopularity that it will generate. We are all guilty to varying degrees for the current condition of the climate and atmosphere, but unless a firm decision of action is made and adhered to then there is little point gained by simple discussion. Too many politicains from all countries love to raise the subject in order to draw attention to themselves, but do not really attempt to deal with the situation.

You realize even your own candidate admits a good possibility of global warming right? McCain has many plans to combat global warming. I do think Al Gore is a piece of work, but at the same time, I think we could tread a little more lightly on our environment especially as India and China start producing more and more pollution every day that passes. Never using your computer will not save the planet as you seem to simplistically think. Being more "green" in everything we do every day will help. For example, recycle when you can, conserve electricity, fuel and other resources, there's a million ways you can help. Or you can just not care and let the next generation worry about it.

John McCain is my candidate boy you do not know me. Maybe you need to do some research about me before your make a statment like that. Computer use more electricity than anything in your house. All of that electricity comes from something.

I'm no expert but from a quick look at a few conservation websites a computer uses the energy of a few light bulbs when in use. I would guess there are many appliances which are much worse, but to me if we follow the principle of basically not leaving things on when we don't use them then we are doing some good. I am sorry if you take offense to McCain. We have clashed a decent number of times here and based on that I assume you are voting Republican this election and he is the "presumptive nominee". You may not personally like him but isn't he your candidate this November? I even saw a commercial today with Pat Robertson (& Sharpton) talking about Global Warming. I agree people are making a big deal about possibly nothing. But then again, those polar ice caps are melting so what would it hurt for us to be more frugal? You actually save money doing it in many cases.

Of course so many people are making huge pollution but i don't know whether those people know this information any how man is responsible for global warming.
