Police speeding

I have no problem with police speeding when they are responding to a call or in pursuit of someone. I am on the interstate several times each week at least once or twice a week I see a police car passing everyone on the road with ease, only to pull off a little way down the road to sit beside the road an use their radar gun. If it were an emergency it wouldnt bother me, but arent these men and women in uniform supposed to be setting an example?

I think they should set an good example to the citizens. I have seen police cars not only speeding, but they are running red lights as well, even when they are not on duty or in pursuit of criminals. But most of the time, if they were to be questioned, they could give many reasons for the blames. Therefore, police shouldn't be endowed with absolute power, or else we will suffer under the reigns of police-state sooner or later.

In our country, the tracking system is not effective at all. Most of the traffic lights are not equipped with camera as well. Even if the police run the red light without reason, there is no proof at all. Therefore, they could give reasons whatever they like if someone is going to file a report against them for such violation.

I have seen them running stoplights as well, and I definitely wouldn't want to see police have absolute power.

i disagree with that in england a police man or women cannot set of speed camera's or go trough red lights without calling in when, where and why they did it so even the police have to account for the actions they take on the road, i myself break alot of speed limts but because i ride a bike i can claim that the camera could of been set off by any passing car/lorry

I have a problem with the very people that is suppose to inforce the law not upholding the law just to get to where they want to be a couple seconds sooner. If there is a reason for them speeding that is understandable but it is kind of hard to explain to your children that yes the nice policeman is there to make sure the bad guys that break the law go to jail so we can be safe, can and do break the speed laws without a second thought and no consequences just because they wear a policemans uniform.

I have a problem when I have to pay a $70 fine for running a redlight going to see my granny who had coded during a procedure at the hospital when it wasnt even a cop that caught me. I got a ticket in the mail the day of her viewing. IT wasn't even a real cop that saw it, it was a stupid camera. What are they doing while this camera works? Speeding down the interstate maybe? GRRRRR

I do agree with you all the police should set good example of discipline to the public and not abuse their power. Of course the police are given the privilege to speed on the road if they are to carry out their emergency duty. I did see police petrol didn’t bother about the pedestrian cross at the time when they are driving relaxingly along. I do dislike seeing the police using the government cars as their private vehicles.

I have no problem with the police breaking certain laws in the case of emergencies, its when there is no emergency that I disagree with their actions. For instance, there have been numerous times in which a police car would speed past me even though I am doing the maximum speed limit, only to pull off the road just ahead to run radar on coming traffic.

Yes men in uniform should set example to all the people around them, its a sad story that they take advantage of it. I don't like those kind of police attitude, they should be professional enough to noticed it. I know some of them still doing the right job and letting the community know what the right things to do.

My hometown has a speed limit of 25mph. I don't know why. It seems really dumb to me. Anyway, everytime a cop gets behind me I make sure to slow down to exactly 25mph. It is amazing how every time they tailgate me and then turn off as soon as they get a chance. I know the cops don't make the rules, but if they are that concerned with not following them then something is wrong.

I thought that they were suppose to obey speed limits posted unless you are responding to an emergency and then they were allowed 10 mph over but only if they had lights and sirens active.

The police can do what they want, haven't you noticed that. They are above the law. I mean, why shouldn't they be? Of course that is sarcasm. They should uphold the law to the letter, that is their Job!!!! It also angers me when a car passes me that is going way to fast and the driver is in a police uniform. I guess their personal cars carry the same weight as their police cars. Some day something may put a stop to it, but I doubt it very seriously.

I often have hoped for the day when I would see one cop pull another cop over for breaking the law...now that would be a sight.

your right, and its one of my biggest pet peeves. I think some people get power like that , and its goes to their heads. Some officers end up thinking they just go made god and do whatever, and they arent obiding citizens like the rest of us.

I could understand if there were and emergency, but otherwise, they should be setting the example, not breaking the law.
