HIgh prices and money saving actions - probably costing us in the long run!

WIth the recession upon us and high gas prices and low wages and unemployment and all, the common people are being hit the worst. Those that make the decisions that we have to pay for and suffer with are still making the over 6 digit incomes so it doesn't bother them. But what really gets me angry is that during this money shortage time, the news and media and a lot of other places , even the "save money" gurus, get on their platforms and start telling US all how to save money! For instance this one on how to save at the gas pump http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/104826/Five-Ways-to-Save-Gas-Money Tell me something I don't already know and not been doing since the dawn of time! But more than that, if all us common folk do all these things to save and make ends met out of necessity, and it is helping us to make it by the skin of our teeth, why should the powers that be, bother to make it stop? They are saying, "hey, prices are high, and people are still working and dealing with it, so we can keep the prices high. Oh we'll excite them and lower it a penny or two in a little while and they will love us for it, but in the mean time, since they are all finding ways to save money on all kinds of stuff in all kinds of ways, we'll just keep the price high and we'll pad our pockets as long as we can" Just makes me so mad that they are taking advantage of our bad situation. Okay, off my soap box!

It is disheartening but it will pass, hopefully sooner than later. I keep trying to think positive and stay above water. We will all make it through hard times with a little perserverance. :)

Oh I'm positive, just practical. Have you ever seen gasoline prices rise and the "when it is over" reduce down to where they were when they started to go up? That is what really bothers me. Take it back just to last year - gas was around $3.00 a gal. Now it is at $3.79 a gallon with increase on the rise. ONce whatever it is that has caused the prices to go up, stops, ends or filters out, will the prices go back down to $3.00 a gal? No, they will drop to maybe around $3.50 from $3.79 but they won't go but a few pennies lower than the current price. Never have. I know oil by the barrel prices go up and that filters down to us, but when oil prices on the barrel go down, they don't go down to where they were when this all happened. If you start adjusting and saving to afford gas now, you will be doing it the rest of your life, generally speaking. Why, cause you made the way out for the government so that they don't have to work so hard for a lower barrel price. But, they got us comin' and goin' and that noose around our necks so we do because we have to! A positive attitude only makes dealing with it a little easier

I agree with you. I always wondered that about the gas. It just keeps going up but it doesn't cost anymore to make it than it did. Yeah we use more, but the gov't also takes more and they don't want to give up their share.

I honestly don't think anyone REALLY knows why it goes up. It comes from the cost per barrel and then is trickled down to the gas pumps, but who, what, where, when and why does the cost per barrel rise? Only the shadow knows the truth!

I'm so with you on this one! Of course we know that it is always us - the common people - that end up with the burden of struggling. The ones that make the decisions don't even recognize our reality, so how can they know. And even if they did, why would it bother them? It's not affecting them at all.

No it isn't effecting them....I'm sure $4.00 a gallon to those 6 digit governement decision makers means nothing to them...they just write it off as business expense or write it to their expense report!
