they are not only from Britian, or England. They are mostly from all over europe. France,Spain,Portoquese,England (as you said) but maybe the British origined people dominated the others so the most common language is english there. They all went to the new land (america is called new land because it was discovered -or invaded- by the europans later) after the years of 1500. There were already a society living in the land. You might lean what happened to them if you make a little search.

no... let's see... Columbus hailed from Italy and was commissioned by Spain. The "Black Robes" were French Jesuits who really helped to settle the land. The Irish came in droves during the potato famine and political unrest and they have added a lot to our culture. Truly, the American People are not a single ethnicity and heritage - it is what is termed a melting pot. myself, I have american indian - german - french - irish - lineage plus some others I suppose.

No not all US americans are of British decent. We all just speak english because that is what the majority of original settlers spoke. White americans can trace their families back to all over europe, not just Britian. And then there are all the citizens whose families came from Africia, Asia, South America, etc. English is just the language we all (mostly) speak, it has little to do with where most of us came from. Plus, if a person is born in America, you call them American, if you called them British or English it would be very confusing because it would make it sound like they were born in England and there for an English citizen.

It is estimated that around 60 millions American can trace their lineage to English. It is unlikely that an American will retain 100% English heritage after generations living in America.

It is a really good question! Americans have British origins mostly, part indians from america mixed and recently african and other. The answer to the question why they do not like to be reffred as British... I do not know, but I would like to find out as well!

I am not sure where you got your information, but the US is most generally called the melting pot of the world. The reason being is that we have all kinds of different groups of people here. I am of German decent. Oh, and by the way, we don't travel by horses anymore either! LOL!

I don't know about this..... maybe they have british origin.... British at first settle to America in Ellis Island... but I don't know if America has its registration for the citizenship at that time.
