I'm Bankrupt Today

United States
April 20, 2008 1:44pm CST
I've gotten up, had my coffee, looked a bit at my email and my mylot responses, even posted one discussion, but really I just feel like going back to bed. I feel emotionally, physically and spiritually bankrupt today and hope that if I go back to bed perhaps I'll have a different outlook when I wake up. I know sleeping is a sign of depression, but I think its something we all do. Do you sleep when you are depressed and do you think it helps to make you feel better?

I'm in a major funk mood too today actually..I have zero motivation, I'm bored out of my flipping mind, I'm frustrated, agitated and basically dont want to be around anyone or do anything...The only reason I keep popping in here is to KEEP from falling asleep cause if I nap it'll totally mess up my sleeping schedule for tonight which I can't have since my kids go back to school tomorrow...

It just seems that lately every aspect in my life depresses me. Even my new job as of today. I just can't seem to motivate myself, I'm surprised I'm responding to this post, not your comment particularly, but anything in general.

Darling, Sleeping is my hobby and my biggest vice. I work from home, and it takes absolute willpower to not slip in a 30 minute nap around 3pm. When I do it (which is much more often than I'd like to admit) I feel totally guilty, like I've betrayed myself and my career. Is it a sign of depression? For sure. I'm actually in the "brand new day" side of depression, but I've survived one. And sleeping is most definitely a symptom. On the other hand, if you've gotten up, had some coffee, gone on line and then want to curl up with a pillow, and you can, I say, "why not"? Waking up refreshed can make a huge difference.

After I posted this I slept for 22 hours, only waking up for about 1 hour intermittently. Got up for work this morning and after all that sleep still couldn't motivate myself to be on time. I am NEVER late, so it said alot for where my head is at.

I think it is good to rest if you are feeling depressed or down in the dumps. I hope you get to feeling better.

Lately I have been going to bed about midnight. Believe it or not I have been waking at 3:28 to go use the loo. Then I start waking up at 5 and movement is painful. I still need to sleep though. By 6am I can't stay in any longer and get up. Pain follows me through the day - my back, neck, arms, legs, joints, muscles. Painkillers work but I'm so sick of myself. I would love to have some solid sleep but it just doesn't happen for me.

Sometimes I do and other times I just mope in my room, staring at the tv but not really taking anything in. It's not often I do get depressed but when I do, I'm like a zombie and I keep to myself and hide in my room.

If you are depressed or feeling down then there is no problem with going for a nap one or twice, if i am bored or generally feeling down, i turn on my playstation or wii, and beat something up for a while (makes me feel a lot better), i dont get bored often, as i have a wife, house, 3 kids & a dog, so making dinners, getting homeworks sorted, walking the dog, cleaning, making dinners and such leaves me little time to get bored, but when i do at least i have an outlet.

I've had days like that myself, where the moment I wake up, I just want to roll back into bed, throw the covers over me and forget the day, but I don't. I did many years ago, have a depression spell that lasted a few months....stayed in bed most of the time, hardly ate (lost a lot of weight) had no motivation to do anything, was tired all the time. Then one day it flashed in my mind that, crap, this is no way to live and "snapped" out of it. To this day I won't let myself succumb to down feelings as I just plain don't want to go that route again..Now I always keep myself busy no matter how lousy I feel, of course I might not do things with "enthusiasm" but I make a point of keeping busy...it just plain makes me feel better. I find that even if I do allow myself to sleep more than usual, I feel MORE tired for some reason

I sure do sleep when I am depressed. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time lately though, it does help. I don't know why though.

hi kbourerie I felt that way yesterday I was so buummed out I had logged onto mylot full of vim and vigor only to find that from a white 7 I had again slid to a pink 6 I felt furious and hurt and upset and grumpy and the whole day went just that way I could not get interested in responding and was just wiped out in all ways. today I slept and slept then went to Larwind Square treated myself to lunch out and did some grocery shopping and even took the luxurey of a cab home. now I feel renewed and am not letting the stupid pink six get me down. I got a nice reply fromMyLot and they said that they are looking into the matter of this sudden slide of soo many of our stars and that maked me feel a lot better.they finally did respond to my questions. a new day a new outlook yay.

Sometimes I do go to sleep to try and block out everything but I do not fall asleep very quickly so it can be very miserable. I dont sleep so readily in the days either but once I reach that "bankrupt" stage you mentioned I can hardly fight it. Hope you've pulled out of it by now though.

Sleeping helps sometimes, but exercise often helps more. So does watching funny movies and doing something nice for yourself, even if it's just buying a single flower or an ice cream cone. And keeping a journal helps, too. Or find a way to help someone else. That's a major help for many people.

When I am stressed I like to turn on my computer, read my stuff, try and make a few bucks, and then I head to the coffee shop up the street for a cup of coffee and a snack, and to sit there and read for a while. Once I have done that, I always always always feel better.

You have to fight your inner self. Don't go to bed. Just read a good book, listen to some nice music. Think positive and keep your goal in mind.

that's the way i am feeling today too. it's been a couple of weeks that i'm sort of in a rut. stress from work, stress from my husband... kids too, but i don't like to think that they stress me out... coz i get my strength from them. but today, i didn't go to work, told them my baby's sick... (bad, bad excuse i know!!) coz it makes my absence more valid. what with the workload at the office these days, i'm not supposed to skip a day at all. but i just had to take this day off! or i just might get burned out more than my boss wants to. hope you feel better after you get some sleep. me too, will get some much needed shut-eye. good luck!

I would agree read a good book,it could be a book that makes you laugh out loud..or a book that makes you think positive thoughts..nothing to heavy though! Sleeping can be a sign of feeling depressed,I am not sure whether it makes you feel better though. Any way kbougerie I hope you feel better soon.

I think what you are feeling is absolutely nirmal. I have also gone ahead and slept when I have felt depressed. Sleeping does not make the pain go away however it does help you to think clerly. All the best and you take care !

The situation that you've gotten now used to happed to me.Aactually it is a bad thing in one's life. When one gets into it,hard to get out it.In my part, sleeping is not the best solution to it,it only will probabaly make you feel worse. My pratice is to find a friend to talk to,or do something you like or love such as play basketball, tenis, even hiking and something like that. Please remember that action will heal both you and your soul.
