Any home made remedies for a hacking cough?

My husband brought home the flu and one by one we all got sick, thankfully at least no else came down with the flu. But my 9 month old and I both have a hacking cough. You know the one that kind of echoes and makes your chest hurt. Any suggestions for what would smooth that over for infants? Not really worried about myself.
