Individual Appetizers, have you ever seen this?

On Hell's Kitchen each episode, they cook appetizers for EACH person followed by a meal for EACH person. In my experience, appetizers have always been for 2 or more people, never for individuals. Perhaps I've just never been to a restaurant this fancy. Have you ever seen individual appetizers at a restaurant? What was so special about them that they had to be individual instead of a shared one?

That's a good question! I've never seen this in my area either. Some of the appetizers here are so huge two can make a meal on the appetizer alone. I wouldn't mind smaller appetizers with smaller prices..hehe.

Yep, seems that prices only go up, never down!

Yeah I agree about the smaller appetizers but I bet they would be larger prices! My husband and I agree on appetizers about 50% of the time b/c I'm a vegetarain and he's not. So often times he really wants buffalo wings or something like that and they ONLY way he can get it is as a meal replacement b/c I won't eat any (obviously). I do like the Trio appetizers where they let us pick 3 things, but even that is so huge we get overstuffed!

I have dined at chains and higher end places and have not seen this option either. It may become an option soon, but probably not until the economy picks up. I also think they do it on Hell's kitchen to increase the pressure on the contestants and of course, add more drama to the show..like when you see people complaining which leads to chef screaming when one is returned or when you see people loving their appetizer.

Yeah that could be it. They make the chef's make 4 appetizers instead of one. I'm sure the show would be much easier if each table ordered a bulk appetizer. One thing I think is silly is how they MUST send all the food out at once for each table, so if one thing is missing, chef usually makes them redo it all! Only one time this season did I see them send out a partial table. I don't see this in real life. In real life if food is ready and one thing was burnt/delayed, they bring out all the food and apologize. I'd rather them do that then know my food is sitting there getting cold while they try to fix a mistake on someone else's plate.

The regular chain places do not offer appetizers like that but some of the higher end places do offer appetizers for one. Personally, I prefer the appetizers for one, that way everyone gets what they want.

It does sound like a good concept but I bet it's expensive. Then again, if you are at a high end place you probably expect it to be expensive anyway :) They do count salad's as appetizers on Hell's Kitchen so I can see that part of it, but I don't think Salad is as much of an appetizer as some of the other options they offer.

Some places are no offering meals that come with a apetizer for one and dessert for one. I for one like the option as alot of people go out alone and well cant eat a whole appetizer.

It is a good idea, but I have never seen it. I also think what's nice about it is that 2 people can get different appetizers without all the waste of getting 2 large ones. Plus a lot of times my husband and I get an appetizer to split and it's STILL way too much for us. Only problem is that I would imagine in Hell's Kitchen these individual restaurants would be expensive!

At the restaurants where I´m invited there are always individual appetizers but we get 2 or 3 (depending on the amount of people dining) and share.
