Grace - A Superstitious Concept ?

I want to try to approach this by focusing exclusively on whether grace exists or not. The question, when properly pursued, would end up wih the subject of whether God exists or not, but I want to limit this one to the question of grace. I have been many times in situations where pure 'luck' saved me from getting seriously injured, outright killed, or where I might have been thrown into jail in some muslim country. Most of this situations I caused myself, either through stupidity, youthful ignorance or by just being naiv. But here I am, 48 years of age, and healthy (if not wealthy LOL). I traveled great part of the world, hitch-hiking through parts of Asia and all of Europe, traveling with all kinds of unsafe vehicles, not to mention plain crazy drivers, train engines catching fire, you name it. I must have traveled like this about 50,000 miles, and I didn't have a single accident, never! On some level I believe that I have a guardian angel (I actually baptized him at some point, he's called 'Benjamin'), and he's been pretty busy. Is this a childish belief, born out of some emotional necessity to explain the statistical improbability? Do I have a guardian angel, or, is it just grace that kept me alive and healthy? Just coincidence, the rest a figment of my imagination? What do you believe, and do you have similar tales to tell?

I do believe that we have angels and ancestors and guardians out there, Pillusch. And grace? Oh yes, there is definitely grace. It's just something I don't question. I just know, inside of myself, that there is something outside of myself, keeping me here, not necessarily guiding me, but saving me when I go in the wrong direction. That doesn't explain it right. But it's the best I can do at the moment. For me, grace exists as much as I do.

You say that iy doesn't explain it right, but it's the best you can do ? Heavens, that is about the smartest definition of grace I've come across so far, (and there is no LOL!) What would happen if you'd really made an effort ?

Wow, Pillusch, you understood. I'm rather shocked, to be honest with you, but I'm very happy about it. Thank you. Hey, you must be a smart kind of fella, yes?

I am tried by the scientific method, but the scientific method is only as good as what it can measure. God is outside that realm, yes of course you could argue good things happening out of bad according to the laws of probability but I believe in God, I believe in Angels, I believe in divine grace and divine intervention and that we have help even if we can't see it or measure it.

I think you might be very lucky I don't know if you have someone watching out for you, but even tho stupidity has gotten you into some trouble .. it was most likely your intelligence that got you out of trouble. If you do have a guardian looking after you .. try not to take advantage of it lol ... think safety first , and good luck to you.
