I went from owning one cat to owning three!!! This was not purposely though. A girl from my work was telling someone that she was looking for a cat for mice in her garage so I told her my brother's cat just had kittens so I gave her my phone number and she would call me. Over the weekend my brother stopped by with his wife and brought the two kittens here because I told them I found someone that wanted cats. The next day I finally get a hold of this girl from work after playing a couple of annoying games of phone tag with her and she tells me that her boyfriend doesn't want them now because they are male cats! I didn't realize that she wanted females because she didn't indicate this when we had the discussion at work and all she said was that she needed a couple of cats for the mice in her garage. The reason her boyfriend didn't want male cats is because they spray. Well duhhhh yeah of course they do and I told her that she's going to have to get them fixed when they get about 6 or 7 months and she had no clue about that! I told her that I was stuck with three cats now and that's not good! I was pretty ticked off at this girl yesterday when she told me she doesn't want the cats now or maybe even one of them but I would feel bad for splitting them up and giving away one. They play so well together and my other older cat is starting to get use to them. He's been keeping them in line hehehe. Good boy! They say three is a good number so maybe I'll keep them! Are you a multi cat owner? How do you manage this?

LOL That's common. I had one cat and then fell in love with a person that had four. That person adopted one and that makes 6. We both love cats and consider them our kids. Our family is a bit well...furry. LOL =^-^= It's easy to cope. We have three kitty litter boxes and clean them in turns. They are out of the way so the kitty's have privacy. (Important in multiple cat home.) The cats now behave as play-mates and seem to be really happy. I love it, and can't imagine my life without them anymore.

this is kind of how i ended up with 6 at once the one time.the landlord of the house next door decided to ban pets-two different neighbors came over with cats asking me to take them. usually my cats would police themselves,so to speak. one would gradually become alpha, and the others obeyed him.it sounds like that's what your older cat is doing.

I think my older cat is sure trying that's forsure. I had to split the fights up today all I could hear was squeel and hisssssss. Seems like they see his tale moving and they want it and he tries to stop them but he's being way to rough with them, so that's when I have to step in! Thanks for your comment

Let be welcome you to the Multi-Cat Club, I have been a part of this club for more than 10 years, and it happened to us as well. We went from having Frisky, who turned 12 today, so happy birthday Frisky, to having three cats. My cats all range in age, as of today, from 12 to 10. Frisky is 12, Dubby is 11, and Goldie is 10. I managed it for, again, more than 10 years, and there have been many, and I mean MANY, up's and down's in the years that we have had them. Frisky had kidney stones (crystals in his kidneys), Dubby injured his leg to the point where we had to pay a $327 vet bill, and Goldie had a hairball caught in her intestine. With our cats, due to Frisky's condition, we feed them all canned food and natural food every day. It gets a little costly, but we love them, so we are fine with paying for it. We have made a lot of sacrifices for our cats.

Wow you sure have made a lot of sacrifices for your cats and they are very lucky to have good owners such as you! I love cats if I could have more I would but I have to come to some sort of consideration for my hubby. He only wanted one but then I talked him into getting another one so my brother and his wife's cat just had kittens and she had two left so I was suppose to give the third to her for mice control and ended up keeping it. So it's not so bad actually. Thanks for your comment

I am now. I went from adopting Waffles cat (a calico) from a shelter and Columbus, a week later, to four cats in a couple of months. It isn't easy. Columbus and Waffles pretty much "own" my bedroom. They sleep on the bed most of the time. However, they share meals in the kitchen, eating separately or together. Mimi, the now 6-year-old orphan, considers my spare room and sunporch her territory and God help any cat who wanders in. She eats her own meals in that room as well. And now Maxie has the basement temporarily. He and the other cats still have to get used to each other without fighting. So far, I've managed just by allowing each cat to pick and choose his or her own place to sit and sleep. I've provided separate dishes and litterboxes. I'll have to buy Maxie his own litterbox eventually, so I can get rid of the smelly makeshift cardboard box I've made for him. Ultimately, it all works out, but very gradually. Best of all, you know that you've saved a few lives, and that's what counts most of all. :-)

Over the weekend when my brother and his wife dropped off the kitties, my older cat didn't like the babies all that much, he was growling and hissing at them. Now I feel that he's getting use to them and even helping me out by keeping them in line because he knows what ticks me off when he does things and it's like he sits by them and watches them and seems to advise them not to do things like climb behind my entertainment stands or climb where the computer's cords are. When they do get out of line, he approaches them. He's a great kitty babysitter and they sure have been keeping him busy! We have two big couches and each kitten has claimed one each, and my son's room. My older cat has claimed a new spot in the bathroom on the first towel closet shelf on our towels.. I'm not sure if he's going to like it up there when we need to wash our towels in the laundry and there's hardly any there lol I'm enjoying having three cats now and I wanted to get one after we got rid of our dog so we would have two just to keep each other company but three is fine too! Thanks for your comment scribe

You're lucky you found cats that won't chew up your shoes because my first cat sure took a round out of mine haha! As for our furniture, I have trained my older cat not to scratch it all. The new little ones haven't learned yet but they will because I'm going to get a new spray bottle hehehe. OH I totally know what you mean by having sucker on your fourhead because I have it written on mine too and my cats also read it lol that's funny! Thanks for your comment kitkat P.S.. my son has named one of the new kitties.. kitkat ha!

I have two kittens I had adopted one but when I got home I felt so bad that she would be lonely I went back up to the shelter one of the other kittens was adopted already but one of her sisters was still there so I adopted her. They love each other so much they sleep cuddled up together and they play together and they seem really happy. They were already spayed and had their rabies shots so I didn't have to go through that they are now 4 months old and are the cutest little things. I think it was very rude of the girl to tell you she would take the cats and then tells you no if she is like that she probaly would not have treated them right anyways they are probaly better off with you.

hi luvstochat, you know... you're probably right about that girl not treating them right and I'm not sure if I want to split them up now because I see how well they are getting along together and the way they play. I seen that she emailed me again but I haven't read what she wrote yet and honestly, I don't know if I should read it. Maybe I'll lie and say I already found them a home? Well that wouldn't really be lying because I consider this their home hehehe! I originally wanted to get another cat to keep my cat company when we go out for the day to shop or whatever but we got two more now so it's all good. Thanks for your comment
