To fellow Filipinos: are you happy with your government?

Philippines

We are all aware of the political, socio-economic, and business situation and other events of national interest. These events also include the Lozano case, rice shortage, oil and commodities price hikes, workers' strikes -the list could be unending. Would you blame the government for all these? Or would you like to think that the government is doing it's best to serve the people and trying to ease all these pressures?

as i get to hear news reports and hear conversations about politics it always makes me feel uneasy partly because i dont know what to think of it and i just dont know what to say about it. yes, the government has a big role in the 'to be blamed part' because they are the ones running our country. i dont mean every body because im sure some of the people are doing things for the betterment of our society but most of the people are so corrupt, unfortunately. but i dont just mean the present government officials, im sure this has happened way way back in time. it couldnt just have sprouted 6 years ago. either a president was drawn in to accept temptation or someone near the president or even the people in the cabinet. it could be anybody really; which eventually was made into a chain, whether the president and other government workers knew or did not know about it. and the government is doing something, but just not their best because some people are to freaking busy filling their pockets with the citizens taxes!*sigh* and the people, well the people has a role here too because i too think that 'it takes two to tango.' i mean, when people would vote, vote for who you really think is the best choice, the lesser of 2 evils you might say? haha. but yea, i mean, if you voted for that person make sure he is the person you feel that can make a difference in the country, not just make a difference in your pocket?? they buy your votes and then what? money gone! you need money again? so you go to that person. and then what? he cant give you more or wont even entertain you. and then people would revolt against the government again, and let the president step down like i said in a reply to a discussion before, if youd let the president step down, do you have a 2nd president in mind that you feel would be a solution? a real solution and not end up as someone who you would throw out of the ring soon when your not satisfied anymore? im saying that people should choose wisely as well. dont you think?

I mostly agree with you on this. Even if we succeed putting this government down who would you replace? There's none I could see right now ready to take it. But for sure there are names that will sprout somewhere. It will just put us further down the drain as we speak.

Well and good I would not stop you from pursuing your plans on ousting her from position. But right now I just hope it would not be like the oakwood mutiny or the manila pen siege type of action. Grabbing power for sure would mean force of the one in power. I know that you mean well for our country's wellness. If that is the solution you're seeing then do what you think is right.

I'm not happy with what government we have. But we also have fault in it. We vote for them knowing that they are not worth to be one of government official they are just there for money, some are straight in the duties and responsibilities to us country men, but many are not. even if we try to change everything it is in us people if we vote for the right one then we will not suffered from this hardship. We are experiencing all this because of our own fault too. If we help not blaming everything to the government official we will not suffer. We are just good in complaining but not doing the best we can to improve our own country. We have to help each other to reach the goal that we have not for our self but for our children's future.

I would say I agree with you. Change should always start from within you and slowly it infects other people to do so.

I suggest that we first change our ways before we criticize others. Just my 2 cents.. Peace

I would say I don't want to be political at these point in time. As a simple citizen of this country I would like to give the government a chance to correct the problem they are facing with. I do not want any more trouble like rallies, strikes to pull down the government since I find nothing by changing the government we have all those in the past and look what we have the same problem with different people in the government. I will work to live and give what I can to support whoever seats in power. What I am just asking them is to provide me with the necessary protection as a private citizen of these country. There is too many politicians and I don't want to be like them at all. I want to live peacefully with my family and share what I can to society.

Then what do you suggest my friend? Another People Power Revolt! Well we've been to that and look what happened to our country the same as we're we were. Politicians playing on the masses to join them in their own selfish game in the end its us who suffer more. I am not turning my deaf ears but I won't allow myself to be used again by these politicians who cry that they be placed in power so they can solve our current political crisis. Let us follow what is the right process to make things right. Impeach if you must, file legal charges if its necessary at all. But for me joining in another mass revolt to change who is in power is just a moro-moro game for the politicians I really do not feel it to work.

Sure we prefer impeachment over coup d etat or people power. Sure we want constitutional means. Impeachment complaints have been filed every year. But it's always blocked by pro-GMA congressmen!

That is why they should prepare for that event to happen. What I see is a weak opposition that is why they always overtaken by the administration. They are not one when it comes to really lobbying what they think is right. I have not seen a unified opposition right now. Some oppositionist even play two roles when election comes that is why. When they were in power they we're so relaxed the reason they were overthrown that easy.

I think it is not about whether we are happy or not with our government. It is about choice, If we choose to be happy with it then we will though if we choose the other way around then it will be. As Filipino, I only hope for a better life for all of us.

Frankly speaking, no I'm not happy. I know the government is doing it's best to handle the pressures but I think the one that's making it worst are those corrupt officials who are abussing their powers, and those people who have nothing to do but criticize every move that the government makes. Why don't we Filipinos just unite and help each other so we can move on with this problems.

I like the last two sentences you made. I do like to unite and move on.... but as what is happening its not gonna happen pretty soon except maybe when Pacquiao has a fight in the ring that is when I feel the Filipino is united as one. But when politics is being tackled I see no united moves to make the Philippines better.

far from it! i feel everythings not worth it these days! my taxes going to the government is going haywire. its not fair that we regular earners gets to work and work and work and officials get rich sitting around! transportation system is poor... our people have suffered long enough only to suffer more. people get out of the country, become nursing aides, domestic helpers, and caregivers.. and out government seemed to be so proud to be sending out filipinos out there and put their lives to danger when they could have been offered jobs here and be not far from their families!

A thousand times NO! Who is going to be happy with our form of government? The peso might be appreciating but does our money have more buying power? NO! In fact it affects the many OFWs like me who send financial help to my family. Our politicians have only concern for themselves and not the taxpayers like us.

I'm really surprised by the shallow comments being given here especially by people who blame the government for this country's problems. Don't people realize that it is the utter irresponsibility of the filipinos that that brought them this low? People blame poverty on the government, when in fact, the problem is overpopulation and an outdated catholic church. Smart people look at the ROOT cause of the problems, while intellectually challenged individuals simply look at what beholds them. Food for thought.....

I'm happy with the government and the way things are going in the country. Sure there is a "so-called" food crisis, sure oil prices are rising....but what third world country is not experiencing these? I think that Filipinos are becoming such whining losers who would rather put the blame on the government than do what should be done to help the country. Come to think of it, ALL the problems the Philippines has right now is due to overpopulation- irresponsible masses and an irrelevant catholic church. I just tend to laugh at people who accuse the government of graft, corruption, incompetency. For ALL i know, these people are even more corrupt, incompetent and unpatriotic than anybody else. Some claim to be activists or to have suffered under martial law....who cares!? Things are different now, the world is changing, and people stuck in the past and do not adapt to change ought to rot in the past.

as a Filipino teenager, i'm really sad with what's going on with our country and how our fellow men are suffering because of our country's situation. others could barely afford to eat or send their kids to school. i just hope for the best for our country. i really hope things will change soon.

gma is doing her best to serve only her own selfish interest. she stole the vote through the hello garci scandal and she continues to steal everyday from the coffers of the nation. take the lozada case for example. there is clear cut evidence that gma and her cohorts benefitted from the zte scandal. the rice and oil shortages are happening elsewhere but i can't help to think that gma and those around her drummed up these "crises" just to shift the attention of the masses from the lozada case.

From an esoteric universalism point of view (something I made up) I believe it's all just meant to be. You know, like it's dictated by fate. Those small mistakes made in the past all accumulated and is starting to be amplified these days. But no matter what happens, I'm still happy to be a Filipino but not with our government.

The Gloria Macapagal Arroyo administration has been involved in stealing billions from agricultural funds and Chinese loans, electoral fraud, kidnapping and murder, human rights violations, rampant graft and corruption. Then to make up for the financial deficit they have raised taxes, the so-called EVAT. She should be impeached, but most congressmen are easily bought. Millions of pesos are distributed to them everytime Gloria needs a vote. Now the Supreme Court has decided that the Senate cannot perform its check-and-balance function against the executive branch, on the grounds of "executive privilege". Sure we want constitutional means for change. But these constitutional means of impeachment and legislative inquiries are being blocked. How else can we make the president accountable for all her wrongdoing? Now she can do whatever she wants. Now she can plunge our country deeper and deeper into debt, taking multibillion loans from China while her cronies pocket the commissions. Who will pay for these debts? Us, our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. And when we can no longer pay our ballooning debt to the Chinese, they will grab the oil-rich Spratlys from us, when it is one of our few hopes of ever becoming a wealthy nation. So am I happy with the government? HELL NO! EVIL B_TCH RESIGN!

I've never lost hope for the country and the government even if I'm living here in the states. I guess what's wrong is people think that the government is the total and only panacea to whatever problems we are experiencing. I guess instead of blaming the government why don't we ask ourselves whether or not we have already done something good to benefit our country people. Then if you can say tha you have given a substantial benefit to our people that's the only time we can complain. I have always believe that it takes two to tango. It's not just the government's fault it also the people's fault. Sure, the government is not perfect and it might be the cause of some of our dilemma but it is so simplisctic to say that they are the only ones responsible for all wrong things happening in this country. You see the problem with us we don't seem to know when to move on. If you give people of different nations a task they would surely complete it as soon as possible. But if you give Filipinos then we wouldn't end up finishing it because we would just argue on who should be the leader. I guess we should just get things done and stop complaining as of now and let the government do its job first. I feel so pity for this country. Anyway, this is just my two cents worth. I'm not saying that it is the absolute truth and I welcom all the other opinions with an open mind! Thanks!
