Spelling

As I wrote yesterday, about the internet and and having to let go of it to afford to put gas in the car to take hubby to all these doctor appointments, I am still hanging on this morning. I was just wondering if the elder members on here has found it as hard to spell when we answer discussions or state a post as I am with the spelling of some of the words. In our every day life we do not get the chance to use these words every day in writing, so when we try to write or answer a post we see that red line when we are typing telling us that the word is spelled wrong. Mylot needs a dictionary for us to check the spelling of the words that popup with the red line. Some times I try to correct it and it makes the word look worse. I have been out of school over 40 years and it hard to remember how to spell when you don't write these words in every day life. Do you leave the spelling wrong, or go find a dictionary and correct it.

I've always been pretty good with spelling so it isn't a problem for me. I do tend to hurry sometimes and not pay attention, but if a word gets by me, it's usually due to haste and not that I don't know how to spell the word. I wouldn't worry about the spelling here. I don't think they take points off for that! How much is your internet connection each month? Are you able to make that much on myLot? I'm sorry you'll have to give it up. I make enough here to justify keeping mine, and it's my only link to the world.

As I am disabled and spend most of my time in the house, this is my link to the outside world, it is also my link to our home back in Louisiana and our friends and neighbors. Internet is Roadrunner $19.99 a month, and I'm trying to figure out how to keep it all going. I had a thought to give them a check over the phone on the automated services, it won't go through the bank, but it will take long enough to go through that we will be paid by then, it will cost me $25. but hey sometimes you got to do what you got to do. Am I wrong. If they disconnect then I pay that much for reconnection and a 2 month bill to get it back on, seems cheaper to pay the $25. NSF charge

Sweetie, you can make enough here at myLot to pay that $19.99 a month, I know you can! How much time can you spend here each day? What are you other biggest expenses? Maybe we can come up with some other ways to help you save ...

Thank you for your concern, I have done pretty good in the last few days with my earnings, I guess because of the post have been long. Yes I have that habit of hurry and go on to the next one, I guess that is because as soon as I sit down here hubby totally forgets where everything is in the house, so try and get as much done as possible. I am hoping since it is just a few days till the first they will let me keep it on, but Time Warner don't care about anyone . They would lose that reconnect fee. I'm sure if I tried I could make 20 bucks here to make the fee. It is ashame that Social Security is allowed to do this to a person, either you give me the check each month or you don't not this one month no check, one month 20 days late so I have to borrow, I believe where the problem lies is that they are having problems getting info out of Louisiana. I just hate to have worked so hard to almost make payout and they cut if off and they start deducting my money.

i guess i could say that i don't want to misspell anything especially in my responses to discussions here in mylot. i do my best to review everything before i post it. i don't want wrong spellings in my posts as well as grammar. i guess it's an OC thing.

I try, but sometimes it just goes by without me noticing if I'm in a hurry.

I've only been out of school for 8 years but yes tehre are some words that i can't spell simply because I never have to spell them! Like diarrhoea. I never had to spell that before I began vet nursing and when I started I was constantly asking my workmates "how do you spell diarrhoea?!" Now I can spell it perfectly purely because I write it all the time. To answer your question, yeah I usually do check dictionary.com. This is because I'm a nerd word and like to check out the correct spelling of things for future reference. And like someone else said here, reading is the key to great spelling! It's the key to great grammar too. If you're reading thousands of words every day you're going to have words and sentence structures stuck in your head that can only be helpful. SO I suggest you begin reading novels or autobiographies or whatver takes your fancy (with the exception of trashy magazines!) and also start doing crosswords! Crosswords allow you to practise your spelling as well as discover new words and meanings you may not have previously known!

i could never spell that work either, I think I flunked English in school, I seen no use for it, well I was not too interested in school at that time, all the girls was getting married, that was the thing to do, and I could of cared less how many verbs was in a sentence. Or it's structure. I read all the time, and I love crosswords. I did go back to school and finish and it was a lot harder then than if I had stayed in to begin with.

I leave the spelling wrong because I have tried to correct it before and I just end up more confused and making the spelling even worse. I know how to spell most words but sometimes they just don't come to me, even the simplicist of words. I think it doesn't matter if the spelling is wrong, most people know what word is being typed. Most people understand what the word is supposed to be. Just keep posting and don't worry about the mistakes. Most people are forgiving.

yes I have had no complaints, just thought it was something that in every day life where you pay everything over the phone and just don't use much in the way of big drawn out words that as time goes by you forget how to spell them. But I wasn't much into spelling when I was in school, like math and science better

I do not have so much trouble with spelling as with hitting the wrong key like hitting hte for the and it is just maddening. I used to be a fast typist but now have slowed down to try and avoid hitting the wrong key and making my work look like I did not know how to spell at all. I think by doing a lot of responses and discussions we will relearn how to spell and to type also. I do a lot of reading so I should be able to spell most words. I have been out of school longer than that and still make typos. I do sympathize with you in re. to gas prices. Although I do not drive my friend Nelda drives back and forth to work and finds it so costly. A dictionary here would be really great.

I'm not a bad speller, because I do a lot of reading and writing, but if I'm not sure of a word, or I want to spellcheck a longer piece of writing, I use this free online spellcheck: http://www.spellcheck.net/ I keep it bookmarked and it's very quick and easy to copy and paste into it.

Sometimes I leave it as is because it wasn't really spelled wrong the site just doesn't recognize it. I try to find out the right spelling for the words in case there is some that's wrong.
