So while bouncing around in another browser a few minutes ago I noticed a headline on the Yahoo page that caught my attention..The article is about "reuse" groups..which I thought was odd but then after reading the article realized its actually a damn fine idea! Instead of throwing out unwanted furniture, dishes, bikes, or electronics, people in "reuse groups" give them away to other people in their community who want them. The givers and takers find each other online. The first step is to sign up for the reuse group nearest you (minimizing travel time when spot something you want). Reuse groups keep an estimated 300 tons of waste out of landfills every day, according to a University of Iowa study. http://green.yahoo.com/blog/greenpicks/149/the-thrill-of-shopping-without-the-bill.html Have any of you heard of this before or do any of participate in this? If so, how has your experience been?? Any tips to share?

That sounds like the freecycle organization. We have one locally and I am constantly amazed a the many items they want to give away I think there is one locally in every city. The following link can put you in touch with your local branch. http://www.freecycle.org/

wow. that is actually a great idea. however, im nt yet sure who are the people i am going to invite to be part of the group. for sure, many people would raise their eyebrows here. they dont want to use "used" items. there are lots of cheap goods in some areas here so probably they wont want the idea. thank you.

Yes I have heard of these groups. Some of them are called Freecycle groups. I actually own and run the local freecycle group in my town. I also try to participate in it as well, but I use a separate screen name for that so that people don't feel like they have to give me stuff just because I am the owner. My overall experience is really good, yes you have the trouble makers who can't follow the rules. But hey that's anywhere you go, right???
