Okay I have went online and got some info about this but im curious if anyone knows of or was pregnant with this. I was exposed to it as I volunteer at my sons school and someone in his class got it. Its apperantly not a big deal unless of course you are pregnant. I am gonna talk to my doctor but I figured so many people on Mylot have good info mabey you guys could shed some light on this for me.

I had fifth disease when I was little. You are not suppose to go out in the sunlight or take hot baths as it can bring the rash out more. I don't know the complications it can cause with being pregnant I would ask the doctor for sure. Here is a link to a page I found about being pregnant and contracting fifth disease. It is not likely your baby will contract it if you do there is always a possibility though http://www.babycenter.com/0_fifth-disease-parvovirus-b19-during-pregnancy_1463060.bc#articlesection1

If it is what I think it is, when I was a kid they called it "virus 5". When I was in third grade, a lot of kids were getting virus 5. I ended up with a rash and my mom took me to the doctor. The doctor said I did not have virus 5 but that I had a sun allergy. He also gave me a note to allow me in class because he said I was not contagious. I did have to wear sweaters outside, or shirts with long sleeves to cut down sun exposure. It only happened to me that one spring/summer. I do have very sensitive skin and burn very easily when I am outside in the sun so I avoid it as much as possible. My biggest problem is when I go fishing. It is either fish in the sun or get my fishing line caught in the overhead tree branches. LOL

Is that more commonly known as slapped cheek syndrome? if so yes you should see your gp to check immunity most people are immune though as it is sooo contagious most children have it as toddlers but its passed off as teething. My daughter had a real bad case of it covered in a rash aswell, once the rash comes out it is no longer contagious and it is very rare to have it more than once, my eldest has though twice! Theres not much you can do apart from see the doctor but as most people have it as children due to you only needing to walk by someone and catch it from them normally you are immune to it by adult hood.

Well you may have had it as a baby or toddler and your parent never even knew it is often mistake for teething as mostly it will just be the red cheeks hence the nickname, only way we knew our eldest had it was the all over body rash she had aswell a lot like a measles rash. Good luck with the doctor though I really hope everything is ok for xx

I think it also called rosaisa or something along the lines of that. It usually just shows itself as a rash on the face and a fever. It is very common in kids, of course, you know how many germs they pass between them. It's one of this viral infections that just lives in your body and sometimes makes an appearance. Most people don't even know they are carrying it. I had a friend who's young daughter came down with it. I think her daughter was only a couple months old at the time. There was nothing they could do for her since it was a viral infection. It took a couple weeks and it just went away on its own.

Oh, I think if you come down with the symptoms then you should see your doctor. But, even though you are pregnant it doesn't seem like there is anything they can do for you since it is a virus.

Yeah, I heard of it. My son got it in grade 5. It's related to pavlovs disease. Another name for it is 'slap cheek' because it literally looks like someone has slapped you across the cheek... like a big red welt mark across the cheek. It feels hot to the touch and can actually blister if the person gets too hot. My son didn't have any apparent pain, but he did have a fever and whenever his temperature rose the redness of his cheeks increased. I'm not sure why it's dangerous to pregnant women though. I know it's not all that common however. When I took my son to the doctor, my doctor called in the other doc at his surgery to have a look... like my son was some kind of guinea pig since neither of them had seen it much before. I felt so sorry for my son though. Because it's an infectious disease he wasn't allowed to attend school, for a week till it cleared. When it did clear his immune system was so depleted that he ended up with borderline pneumonia for the next week. I was borderline pneumonia too, so I probably passed it on to him.

Yeah the school has signs posted saying stay out if pregnant so im gonna be safe and tell my doctor I feel fine but I guess it can cause issues with the baby like anemia and premature birth.

Yeah, better to be safe than sorry. If you do happen to get it the important thing is to try and stay cool. I think it's one of those things that is mainly dangerous in the first trimester because if you get a fever at that time it can affect the baby quite badly. When my son had it we were told to put a cold compress on his forehead when his temperature rose, and to pull the blankets back or give him a cool bath.

My kids had it once. From what I understand, it is very minor in kids. It is more painful for adults. I don't know much more than you get a rash that looks like a sunburn and your muscles ache. I would call the Dr. and talk with the nurse.

I agree that you should see your doctor about any thing that worries you when you are pregnant! good Luck! xxx

I am so sorry but I have never heard of fifth disease before. I hope your doctor has some ideas on that and can help you understand it. PLease let us know how you come out. good luck and god bless. Seems that being Pregnant is alot like being diabetic in that whenever you pick up an over the counter med. you are cautioned if you are pregnant orare diabetic to ask your doctor about using this product. lol give me a break. even on tylenol and I will be darned if when I have a headache I am going to call my doctor first no. I take the tylenol as for getting hold of my doctor that in itself would give me a headache.
