What to do for an 8 year old's birthday party!

What to do for an eight year old's birthday party? I don't know!!!! My son's birthday is coming up quick! He will be turning eight on May 12th but I wanted to have his birthday party on the 10th instead because the 10th falls on a saturday. I was thinking maybe a magician? I make really nice cakes so at first I thought he would like the Transformer's theme and that cake would be relitivaly easy to make and decorate. I phoned around to a couple of different places that had entertainment for children's birthdays and found that a magician would be most fun. I live out in the country and there's no remote places that are near made fun for kids so I would have to have it at our home. We have a huge yard and we can come up with many things to do outside but I just don't know what???? Can anyone give me any ideas about themes, games or anything? I would appreciate it very much!
