As some of you know, I homeschool my kids. My oldest is studying the English language and the forms of it. Today we are studying dialect, jargon, and slang language. It asked her to fill in several blanks with words that she would use to match the description of several things. The list was fairly easy except for a couple of them. We are listing this here on mylot to see what others in other parts of the United States or other English speaking countries would say for these. So here is it: 1. A divided highway with no street lights is a ___________________. 2. Food eaten between meals is ______________________________. Will you all please give us the answer that you would use to fill in the blanks so that we can see what others would say. Her answers were 1. road and 2. snack Thanks ahead of time for your help and I look forward to all of your answers.

The first one just confused me, since we don't use the word highway here and roads here have lights. The second one I would have said snack for too.

I am not quite sure what a highway is, which is why I was having a problem with the question. It is either a motorway or dual carriage way.

Well, I see that great minds think alike as we all came up with the same answers. I am sure that there are other things that you could say but I couldn't come up with anything else.

Well, most interstates have lights as well as state highways, but I guess that could be right too. The second seems to be snack, but if you read the following post it has some good answers for it. Thanks for helping us with this.

Hey Carol, The only three options that I can think of in reference to your request would be "THRUWAY" for highway and "PICK ME UP" or "TREAT"for the between meal food . Good luck

Great answers!! Thanks so much for your help. It is interesting to see what answers people have but you were the first to give an answer to the second one.
