My son (20months) just got conjunctivitis on Saturday morning. When he woke up in the morning crying, i went to pick him up and when i saw his face and eyes, it was scary and horrible. My boy has never had that before and to be honest i never really heard about it before. I actually called my friend who is a nurse to find out what it is. She made me calm. My son was scared because he couldn`t open his eyes and he was getting that discharge like every few minutes. But i could clean it just sometimes so i wouldn`t irritate it. He wouldn`t have proper nap and not sleeping during night. I felt very powerless, that i couldn`t help him and he would be screaming during night being scared. Now we have an eye drops and it is getting better. I feel better personaly that i know what to do next time when it comes, but seeing it first time...oh, it is scary.

I reread your post I guess you alreay have the eyedrops so he will be better in no time try to keep him from rubbing his eyes with his hands as it is contagious.

My daughter caught it earlier this year but I was fortunate to have a friend whose boys have had it so she recognized it right away. She told me to call the ped and give them the symptoms so they could call in a prescription for me and not have to wait. After you have the eye drops and have given your child a dose, you can be around other people again, so the quicker you get them, the less the chance it will spread. It IS kinda yucky and scary the first time you see it but my daughter was better the second day - she still had to have the drops for about a week but it does respond quickly to the medication.

Both of my kids have had it. The doctor will presribe an eye drop for it just take a warm wascloth and lightly wipe away all the gunk it will keep coming back until the infection heals and it will be worse when he sleeps as it will mat but the eye drops should start clearing it up within a few days.
