DO you use garlic in your cooking regularly? Back home it is used in almost everything but in here many people hardly use it at all. I like it. It gives a special touch to most foods. We usually mince it really finelly except when it's to give some taste to steaks where we slice it instead because it tastes better fried that way. SOme people complain that when people eat something with garlic it's better not to open their mouth LOL But I have found that to happen only when a lot is used for that specific dish. So... do you use garlic in your cooking?

My husband loves garlic, so we use it alot it in cooking. I've come quite accustomed to it and dishes that I used to not use it in, when I have other peoples seem pretty bland to me. We put whole cloves of garlic in our roasts and it is so good, might be bad for the breath but hey thats what toothpaste and gum is for!! Also besides flavoring your food its really good for you.

LOL you are right, toothpaste really works. The roasts are so much better when we add the garlic cloves. People don't even have to eat them, as long as the flavor got there, it's great.

Traditionally, we use garlic for almost every dish...there are very few dishes that do not use garlic. And I love garlic...so I use quite a bit of garlic in my dishes. But I've never had the problem of 'garlic breath'...maybe because it's cooked well. But sometimes when I'm lazy to peel garlic, I cook dishes that don't use garlic at all. There is a group in India...who do not use onions or garlic at all in their dishes. It is taboo according to their religion and there are special restaurants for them...or special dishes are prepared for them in the regular restaurants.

I know people who don't like the smell or taste of garlic. It's a personal choice. But the Jains in India cook without using onions or garlic in their dishes.

Same here regarding the traditional use of garlic. Didn't know about any group that considered it taboo, interesting. But I do know that there are many people that don't usually cook anything with garlic - either because they don't know much about it or don't like it.

Yes I do, I bake a chicken in a pot sometimes and throw garlic cloves in it. It tastes AMAZING but a million breath mints won't cure the smell :)

LOL I find it that if we just use them to give taste and then take them out, it doesn't smell as much. And of course using just enough, not too much .

It is used in our Indian dishes and its a good source of mineral and vitamins. We also use is frequently in our dishes. It helps us in our digestion. I agree with you, that some people do not like its taste and do not eat thosed cooked vegetables, which have garlic in it.

I find it that when most people say they don't like garlic it's more eating chunks of garlic that they don't like - I don't like it like that too much either - but when it's minced or used to flavor and then taken out they enjoy it :)

Yes I like using garlic in cooking. I used to grate it with a cheese grater, but I went and bought a garlic press last week. I like it in many things, with other herbs and spices too. If you are cooking with tomato based foods, then get the tomatoes warm before adding the garlic and the flavours will combine much better. It is always a good idea to brush teeth between meals or chew minty gum in any case, so garlic is no worse than anything else on the breath, you need to be hygienic about these things.

I love the smell of garlic. Its yummy, it adds a certain zest to the food, a very subtle smell and flavour without which somehow the same food would have tasted very bland indeed. Rice is our staple food and if nothing else is available, I would just put some peeled garlic in butter, fry it (heavenly smell) and have it with hot rice. Wonderfully tasty anyday. Same here for pulses and curries. Almost anything smells amazingly appetizing with the addition of a few flakes and the smell does tickle our taste buds.

I know. The smell of nice food is almost irresistible :) Garlic is a great choice, a healthy choice too and it goes with basically everything. We often add garlic to the water before cooking the rice it makes the rice taste even better :)

Yes the smell seems to be the only problem , but it's only when too much garlic is used and eaten. Other than that it's not that bad :)

I am very fond of garlic, powdered, minced, crushed chopped, pickled, roasted, stuffed in an olive, you name it - we like it! We love garlic pizza too! just poke some holes in your spread dough - coat it with olive oil and sprinkle on some italian seasoning - now spread over top some sauteed garlic or even a lot of garlic powder if you prefer... top with mozzerella , bake and voila! (also good with some diced tomatoes on top)

I use garlic all the time. I have a container of garlic salt sitting on the back of my stove so it is easy to reach. I love garlic. Besides tasting good, it is good for you.

Hi arka, I always use it, not only for the flavour and taste. It is good for health too. too much of garlic is also bad for health. You can have garlic pearls after food as supplements if you do not take garlic otherwise. Garlic and its cousins (onions, chives and scallions) are probably the most intriguing of all vegetables. Garlic lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of heart disease, fights infection and boosts immunity. The studies suggest that garlic may: lower total cholesterol lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol lower blood pressure help keep blood thin, reducing the risk of blood clots and stroke, function as an antioxidant. There are also some preliminary findings suggesting that garlic may lower elevated serum levels of homocysteine. And to know more about this you can go through these sites http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/garlic.htm http://www.thenutritionreporter.com/garlic.html http://www.ayurvediccure.com/garlic.htm All the best

Yes, the health benefits are great specially when used wisely. Back home we use garlic and onions quite a lot so I got used to it. Thanks for the sites:)

arkaf61 I do use a lot of garlic in my cooking and especially in pasta dishes. ialso like it in allsorts of meat dishes. I use a lot as its good to lower my blood pressure. I have never really notice any unpleasant garlic odor from having eaten garlic but then I use it wisely . Its so good in so many different kinds of dishes. as I understand it garlic has a lot of good things going for it in the health department.
