Do you give your child an oil massage and a bath? Here, in India, it's done daily. We give the baby an oil massage (we start as early as a week old) and let them lie for around 15 minutes atleast before giving them a warm bath. They sleep well and get used to the water being poured on them. There's a certain way to do the massage...I noticed that different regions do it differently. I also noticed that most young mothers today don't know how to do it and avoid it altogether if they can't find someone who does it. So, have you given your kids an oil massage and bath?

I have never tried giving my daughter an oil massage... my mother nor mother-in-law... did not tell me about this... but then... it think it is not common in my country... since the weather is quite hot her... the oil might make my baby feel a lot hotter... but i do give her a bath everyday... sometimes during the night before sleeping... and sometimes in the morning... What kind of oil do you use?... i might try it one time to my daughter...

Yes, that's my younger son, Omkar. You mean your niece was given an oil massage AFTER birth right? We also have oil massages for the mother before and after delivery. It really did me good...but I couldn't do it soon after my second delivery because it was a C-section.

I always have both my children and my grandchildren. You are right in that it relaxes them, not to mention the bonding that happens when you have skin on skin. There are prenatal parenting classes now at most hospitals, and massage is often taught to new parents. It is so important the babies have this closeness, and it is just important for the parents.

It's great that the parents are taught how to do it (because there is a certain way to do it and you don't want to be pulling anything tender). But I don't think we have it in India...some new super specialtiy hospitals have come up and I think they have some classes but not the regular hospitals...and most of the people in my generation living away from parents don't know how to do it either...so they don't do it anymore.
