A random act of kindness...

This morning, I took my son to school, and I had my younger two kids with me who start school about an hour and a half later. While on our way home, on a back country road, I ran out of gas. The gas gauge in my car only half works, so once it gets below a half a tank, I'm never sure of how much gas is actually in my car. I put the car in neutral and did the best I could to push it off the road, and my kids and I began walking. It's probably a little more than two miles to our house from where my car ran out of gas. I knew that they were going to miss their bus and I had no way to get them to school, so I had just decided they would have to stay home.
While walking, car after car flew past us, never taking a second glance. Suddenly, a truck from a local electric repair company pulled up beside us, and offered us a ride. One of the biggest things I have taught my kids, like most parents, is to never get in the car with a stranger. My daughter said "he's a stranger mom". Yeah, he was. However, I accepted the ride. There wasn't enough room for all of us, but he was kind enough to make room. I just recently had surgery on my foot, a week ago, and that walk home would have been so painful for me. I looked atrocious, my hair not combed, wearing my pj's and slippers with a nasty wound on my foot. No wonder no one else stopped.
I just wanted to share with everyone that there are still nice people out there. I truly expected to just walk home and figure out what to do when I got here. Thanks to that man, my kids made it home in time to catch the bus, and I was spared a tremendous about of pain.
All is well now. My sister in law came over, we went and got a gas can and put gas in the car. I'll never let it get below a quarter of a tank again.

I'm happy that you didnt have to walk dear. I about a month ago saw a woman that needed a ride, And I picked her up. I couldnt help it its just in my nature. Of course I dont pick up everybody, but My heart was telling me to. I also asked god to keep me safe before I did it. I wish it was a world though that you could just pick up everybody. I myself am bad about keeping gas in the car. But heck its uper hard now with outrageous gas prices!
Have a good day!

What a wonderful man!
You could explain to your child that you were there to protect her so it was kind of okay but never a good idea. And that you probably wouldn't have been able to make it home anyway, in your condition.
I had a flat once when my kids were small and I was taking them to school because we got up late--that was rare but we had a lot of electrical outages. I was in my nice nylon nightie and matching robe (I used to dress up for hubby till I realized it wasn't important to him) and boom! I was so embarrassed changing that tire! At least you were wearing PJ's!!

LOL.. that reminds me. As soon as we got out of the truck and he started to drive off, I looked at my kids and said " don't EVER get in the car with a stranger. Something told me he was a nice man, and because I was with you, you were safe, but don't EVER do something like that." They just looked at me and nodded. They knew how serious I was.
