My neighbors moved in three years ago and they have two cats that tear up my garbage on a daily bases and every spring I spend several days cleaning my fenced in backyard of cat poop. Now they don't just poop in one place, they poop all over the place. I spend today cleaning it off my patio and bleaching it down. I have no idea how to take the cover off my pool without getting poop in the pool. I have spoken to the neighbors and all they said was that is a cat for you, when I mentioned that there is a leash law in our town , they said that is to cruel. I have tried everything to keep these cats out of my backyard and nothing has helped. Does anyone have any ideas, short of killing them!!!!!!!

I love cats but outdoor cats do wander. Couple of options: 1. see what your local pet store has that will scare the cats off 2. see what the local ordinances and your rights are in case you need to take action Don't kill the cats ( I assume you were kidding). It isn't their fault. Go after the owners if it becomes intolerable!

We have a leash law for both dogs and cats. Murder was in my mind lol while cleaning it up and scrubbing it, but no I could never kill the cats. I have allergies, one of them is to cats. I have tried all the repellents that are out for this and nothing works. Other neighbors have called the police and all they do is talk to them. Thanks for your help. Have a great day.

Oh dear this does sound dreadful. Poor you, it is bad enough having to clear up your own pet's business but having to clear another person's pets' muck is another matter. I have heard that there are sound systems that you can put in your garden that emitt high frequencies which cause the cat a bit of discomfort it doesn't really harm them but it tells them to go away. Can you get one of those? In the meantime can you talk to someone on your council? Or the State about this? This isn't being neighbourly and i don't agree with having to bring in the police but something needs to be done. If your neighbours are going to have pets then they have to train them to do their business in a litter tray or at least in their garden. They are probably delighted that they don't have to clean up after their pets, which isn't fair on you. And by the way, there are laws against this (as I'm sure you already know). Perhaps you need to 'threaten' them to take some action? Good luck and thanks for sharing this with us.

Just shows that you are a much nicer person than your neighbours. Like you I would be mortified if my dog got away and messed up someone else's garden or yard and I would also rush out and clean the mess up. Oh well, you can't have everything and good neighbours aren't always easy to find! Hope you have some success with the fence. Good luck with putting it up and that the cat stays away. You are right, your neighbours are bullies! :(

I asked the vet yesterday and she said the only thing that will really work is to put electrical wires up, she said that it will not hurt them but they will stay away. So I picked up a kit at the farm store and will be putting it up this afternoon. It will be so nice not to have to clean up garbage and cat poop. I have never been good with bully situations and the way these people respond to anyone voicing a complaint to me they are bullies. I felt so bad when my little dog got loose(one time) and pooped in the (different)neighbors yard, I was over there cleaning it up and apologizing. So I have no understanding how these people can be so angry if anyone says something to them about their cats. Thank you for responding. Have a wonderful day.

If you already talked to the neighbors, the next step I would take is call the authorities. And whenever you catch one of these cats on your property, take a hose and squirt them, they may stay away just so they don't get wet.. Or better yet, do you like dogs? Get a dog, and you won't have any cats bothering you again.. As for tearing up the trash, can you get one of those large plastic cans with a lid? They make them now to keep out anything from dogs to raccoons, it should keep cats out..

What about calling the police and making a complaint..What these cats are doing is wrong, they are not "being cats" like your neighbor said, they are being destructive and you should be able to get help from someone to tell these people to control their pets..

I have tried all that. I have a little dob 5 pounder and she is scared of them LOL. These cats seem not to be fazed by anything. I have tried yelling at them and waving my arms and they sit there looking at me LOL. If I get to close to them they will hiss at me, I think I am afraid of them like my little dog. If you think of anything else please let me know. have a great day.

Ah thats a pity right here! I recently got a dog and she poops all over the place, luckily not in the neighbours garden! What suprises me is that your neighbours, supposedly friendly, are not doing anything to help your case and stop the cat doing its business! You should really go to the neighbours again and explain to them what their cat is doing in your garden, hopefully they will realize its a pain, even wrecking your pool! If they do nothing try get a small fence around to not let the cat in or even put down some of that smelly liquid to make your garden a less place for poop! Hope you get it sorted soon! Jack

The backyard is completely fenced in with landscraping post around the bottom of it they climb the fence and come over the top. I have put repellent that I bought at the farming store all over. Other people in the neighborhood have turned them in all that gets done is the police come and talk to them but that hasn't helped. Thank you for responding. Have a great day.
