Wait a minute! Is Al Gore still our savior if the climate change is global cooling and not global warming? Do we need more CO2 to save the earth? Are carbon 'credits' more akin to carbon 'nails in our coffins'?

Which is it do you say? Global cooling or global warming?

Decisions, decisions....
I already believe that the sun is the source of all of the earth's warmth... and that there is already overwhelming evidence of massive glaciers in earth's history... and that the Ice Age is considered to be a scientific fact.
I also believe that in order for the ice to melt that some sort of global warming had to occur, and that could only have come from the Sun's influence and had nothing to do with Fred Flintstone and his carbon footprint and CO2 output.
There is nothing to say that the earth cannot cool as it is warming... after all, isn't that exactly what happened with the Little Ice Age?
As to the effect of CO2 on the Global Climate, well you already know that I do not consider that to be an issue of any importance.
Water vapor and the Sun, yes... CO2, no.
Man made CO2 is such a none issue it would be laughable if every government on earth wasn't trying to find ways to limit it.
I have read the EPA report of the Lieberman/Warner Bill, and it plainly shows that such an endeavor is exceedingly expensive and completely pointless. I believe the reduction was only 25ppm by the year 2095 and the cost was something like 6.9% of our GDP by 2050.
I have seen a couple of other reports concerning sunspot activity that in theory could cause global cooling, and I must say that theory is much more believable then the CO2 based global warming theory is.
Every grade school kid knows that the Sun is our source of heat and light so I really cannot understand why all of these highly educated climate scientists never thought to look to the Sun as a possible reason for our Climatic Conditions.
Could it possibly be that there is some political and/or social agenda at work here?
I say that we are presently cooling... at least for now... because I have seen reports also where there has been no rise in temperature since about 1998, and in fact the ocean average temperature has fallen by about 1 degree.
Al Gore should hide now...

Indeed, Al Gore should be ashamed to show his face. What he is doing instead is not allowing reporters at places he speaks. It's in the news.

We now need carbon debits. If you are not using enough carbon you can pay me to create more carbon. If your carbon footprint is not big enough pay me and I will just make my footprint bigger to offset your small footprint.
The Earth climate has change without humans, and will change with humans. Look at the Ice Ages before humans came to the world. Over millions of years ice would grow and then shrink over time. Did cavemen have SUVs? Then where did the global warming come from back then.

An internet search will turn up numerous 'hits' for carbon debits. People with a sense of humor have been selling carbon debits for those with 'small carbon footprint envy' for several years.
Even a scary white guy who is a fool and an embarassement here on myLot offered to cut down a tree and burn it in his wood stove as a carbon debit for those in need. Just send money was all he asked in return!
I believe someday, archeologists will discover what it was the evil cavemen did to have such a large carbon footprint.
Until then, thanks for the response!

I am certainly no expert on carbon credits. However to my understanding, the fact that they can be traded back and forth between heavy and low polluters sort of adds a sordid angle to it in my opinion. Unless massive efforts are made to reduce the issuance of carbon credits and enforceable measures taken to police industry; it will all be to no avail. I have commented on environmental topics before in that as far as I am concerned; warming/cooling; the earth will do what it is gonna do! It will be self generating and self healing. Whether human kind in the longer term will survive this natural progression or not is the question. There are always two sides of the coin; and if in turn this means that the right outcome is found because of the furious debate and desire to be the ones that are right then all is good. But without sounding too pessimistic; political expediency will ensure that nothing dramatic happens in tis regard any time soon.

Your thoughts on 'carbon credits' are spot on. Add to it that the failed, fraudulent, criminal American company ENRON was big time behind the idea and you start to get the drift of where the idea of 'carbon credits' came from and what it was about.
The long story short is the sun - earth energy/ecology that keeps us alive is massive compared to anything we can do to influence it.
Mankind could easily poison itself with pollution but changing the temperature of the earth is beyond our means. That is, we can easily harm ourselves, we can barely pinprick the earth itself.

Does there seem no possible way to save the ill-fated earth and it's inhabitants from certain destruction? I think the scientists should seriously modify their line of thinking and get eveything ready for the inhabitants of earth to occupy either Mars(in the event of global warming), or Venus(in the event of global cooling). After all, this will have to be a major effort by all the scientists of the world to develop livable conditions on either planet and find a way of mass transit affordable by the masses to secure the survival of humankind in the future. Al Gore better be saving up for his seat aboard the shuttle.

The laws of probability and random chance tell us for certain the earth will become uninhabital someday for many different reasons. Besides the quest for knowledge, this certainly is a part of the reason humankind explores space. To that end, hopefully someday humans will colonize space, but as to taking along Al Gore, think about it. Why would we want Al Gore's bad seed, that living breathing proof nepotism is bad for the nation, to come along and thus contaminate a new human society?

Heaven Help us if Al Gore is the Savior. His global warming theory is full of hot air. There is no global warming. It is the regular ebb and flow of our environment, the natural progression of our history. What is really hurting our planet is the deforestation of the Rain Forrest around the Equator. Now that is a mess.

Sensible talk plainly put is rare around here concerning the topic of man made global warming. Thank you for your input. I certainly agree.
