In connection with my decision to work abroad, particularly in Singapore; I'd like to learn some basic Mandarin words. Anyone who knows some of these; kindly share them with me just so I could converse with the locals there somehow. Thanks in advance.

If you just work in Singapore, I think English is enough for you. But if you want to work in China, you'd better to learn some easy Chinese first. For Example: xiexie=Thank you;ni hao=Hi;bu yong xie=you are welcome;da rao le=excuse me and so on. LOL

Thank you so much for giving time to respond to this discussion and for providing some basic Chinese terms. I really do appreciate it. I'm quite familiar with thank you and hi but welcome and excuse me translations are new to me. Again, thank you so much.

You wouldn't know how happy I am to be reassured that I would do fine to work in Singapore in terms of language. In preparation to working overseas, I've been learning some basic Mandarin words and I started it just a couple of days ago.
Thank you not only for your reassurance but also for commending me for my English. It's my pleasure to have an online friend like you. And if I'll be visiting China in the future, I'd like to meet you soon.
Thanks again.
