Apparently Yahoo thinks it needs one. Yahoo plans makeover with elements of social network By MICHAEL LIEDTKE, AP Business Writer Fri Apr 25, 7:47 AM ET SAN FRANCISCO - Yahoo Inc. plans to make its Web site a social hub by hosting applications from other online services, part of the Internet pioneer's effort to spawn more advertising opportunities. ADVERTISEMENT "We are going to rewire the entire experience at Yahoo to make it social in every dimension," Ari Balogh, Yahoo's chief technology officer, said Thursday at a "Web 2.0" conference that drew a crowd of more than 1,000. The more open platform copies a concept that already has been embraced by Internet search leader Google Inc. and a variety of online social hangouts, including Facebook Inc. and News Corp.'s MySpace.com. Read the rest here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080425/ap_on_hi_te/open_yahoo;_ylt=Ajzs0YmJ8DNeBr0L_jTDl0ms0NUE I love my yahoo mail, but really don't use yahoo for much else. I know they've been in trouble financially and this seems like another effort to jump on the social networking bandwagon and save themselves. What do you think? How many ways to socialize do we need?

Is this why I kept getting those error code 1 and 2 the last couple of days?? Someone mentioned they may have been doing something, I just wished instead of sending me a "this is what the problem could be" reply when I contacted them they could have added, "we are in construction right now" as another option..

What I was getting was every once in a while as I was reading my mail and deleting or going to the next message, I would get mostly an error code 2 message and had to refresh..Then a couple of times I got an error code 1 message..Don't know what those are or the difference, but it was getting pretty annoying after a while..So far today I have had no problems, so I hope that it has been taken care of..

I know yahoo mail has been having some issues lately, the new mail not loading and having to use the old one, etc. Also with reading mail and it still says you have mail and you don't. Don't know if these issues are related or not, but I hope they get fixed.

People have been telling me for years that I need to clean up my act and stop being such a 'Yahoo.' I've never paid it much mind because I thought a Yahoo was a refined hillbilly. I cherish my hillbilly status. Now, after reading your story, I feel like I'm being forced into going to California and getting Hollywierd type make over which will detract from my affinity to be a Yahoo. Hillbillies can't in good grace get a makeover. Getting dentures is where we draw the line. I suppose the only honorable thing to do is give up my Yahoo image and go with 'HotMail.'

Well I don't even know what to say to this. You look more like a big ridge than a hill billy ...

Yahoo ... Hillbilly ... Bigridge .... I still don't see myself as a social hub and in need of a makeover. Bill Gates ... take me away.

they want to cash in on the money coming out of social networks, and there will always be people who will join them, always, people now belong to many social networks as it is. I had my e-zine with Yahoo, I changed because they have very bad customer service.

I have Yahoo and mainly just use it for my e-mail as well. I do know that Yahoo has Yahoo 360 and I thought that was like a social network, so I can't imagine what else they would be adding to make it more of a social networking site. I also agree that we have many social networking sites, and if you belong to too many of them hard to keep up with them all.

Honestly, I don't really care. I am not that computer savvy so I guess it won't affect me so much. I use yahoo for my e-mails and that's all about it. I guess you are right. These guys are just wanting to keep up with the trend or least they will be left behind and will not be able to cope with the fast-changing cyberworld.
