I just watched Sweeny Todd last night and well I cant decide if I liked it or not. I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp of course and he did a great job in the movie but it was a bit dark for a musical. So what did you think of this movie?

I wasn't sure when I went to watch the movie how I would like it. Yes it was very dark in nature and a few scenes I thought they went a bit over board with the blood but over all I enjoyed it. We had watched the behind the scenes first and found out that half the cast hadn't ever sung before so when we were watching it and listening we were amazed at how good they were. Helen Boheme Carter plays the crazy very well. Actually everything I've seen her in she has played a nut of some sort. I have always liked Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman from when I first saw them back in the 80's. I admit I haven't seen all their movies but the ones I have they have been great in. This was no exception. I was impressed with all of the acting in it actually. They did a fantastic job. Definitly one I would recommend

I wont argue ther the singing and acting in the movie was great but the movie itself was just a bit odd to me but most Tim Burton movies are weird. Id watch it again for sure so I guess I liked it but I dont know id recomend it to my friends.

OH I agree Tim Burton's movies are odd and often on the dark side. Still it is one I can enjoy for the music and the performances. Of course most of my friends like really gory horror films so they would find it tame in comparison.

Minnie, I have been back and forth about whether or not to spend the money to see this one. I do not always like musicals, however I am like you Johnny Depp is to die for and Tim Burton is one of the most creative people of our generation. I just hate renting a movie and wasting my money on a bad choice. So did you like the story line and what was the music like? LMAO I know you are asking our opinions but I would like to hear more about yours.

It is very dark and kinda hard to understand at points. I was very impressed with Depps acting and singing. Its a very gory movie at times. Some parts are very odd just like any Tim Burton movie. Not my fav movie but overall Id say good enough to rent for sure.

I loved Sweeny Todd. The actual musical is this dark - as well as the real story behind it is. I really like Johnny Depp and well as Tim Burton. With those two I expected it to be dark and creepy. We saw the movie in the theater once and I have seen the movie 2 more times since the DVD came out.

I was very disappointed in it. I found the music to be distracting and I could not understand all that was being said. This is the first movie I have ever seen with Johnny Depp in that I didn't like. I much preferred an earlier version I saw without the singing.

Yeah I think it was all the singing that really thru me. I mean they sounded good it was just confusing to me. I have always loved Johnny Depp but seeing him in a musical was a bit odd. But he did look plenty crazy hes definatly a good actor.

I really enjoyed the movie. I went into it expecting it to be just as dark as it was, because I had heard of the musical before the movie came out. It is a pretty unusual musical! There's another version of the movie that isn't a musical with Campbell Scott and Ben Kingsley, with the latter playing Sweeney Todd. Really interesting stuff. :)

I have not seen the film, but we studied this story in English in high school and as part of the study we went to see a production of it on stage. I remember it being really good and it made you use your imagination a lot in the gory parts. I enjoyed it, as I liked that sort of thing from an early age.

I just found the movie a bit odd with the singing and the gore not used to it. You expect a musical to be all happy and stuff. Or at least colorful.

I love the music, but then I love Stephen Sondheim's music as a whole. I saw the London premiere of Sweeney Todd way back in 1980, and the music blew me away. I was appearing nearby in the Old Vic at the time in a small part and a few of us were offered free tickets. The subject matter? Hmm...I won't be rushing to see the movie, and if it comes on TV, I'll be part-watching it for the music but doing other things at the same time. I'm a bit squeamish that way I have to say.

Ok. I'll give it a look on DVD, but if it's too gory I'll f/fw. Depp is always superb, and Burton is enormously talented. I'll watch with reservations...

I am in two minds about whether to see this movie or not to be honest! Any movie with Johnny Depp tends to be pretty good; but there is something about musical's that I don't really like. When I saw the preview of the movie I thought that it looked pretty interesting; then of course it leads into a scene with Johnny Depp singing and then they pretty much lost me from that point!

I didnt know it was a musical so it shocked me when the singing started but it was an okay movie not my favorite of his but still worth watching.

Hi minnie_98214! I do like Johnny Depp and Tim Burton too. I watched Sweeny Todd and I do agree with you that it is kinda dark for a musical. I guess, that is what makes it unique and somehow differ from other musicals because there is lots of blood. Yikes! I really didn't find it amazing though it is funny in a dark kind of way. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day dear friend!

I agree it was a bit dark for a musical, but I love johnny depp, and overall it was ok. On a scale of 1 - 10. 10 being the best, I would rate it about a 7 or 8.

I liked it.Johny Depp acting was excellent.Music was also nice, there was some good songs. It was really scary in the middle and ending.I like scary movies. But there is also some bad points. The movie was dark. The words the characters speak are sometimes to soft and difficult to understand. And it was boring in the beginning.

i find it a bit odd, im familiar with the story and i could really get in to it, but then the cast kept bursting out in to song, surely not things to be sung about? blessed be

be rest assured that if it was tim burton who made it then it is dark. though, i have not seen the original version of the movie still i did not watched it. i am selective of dark movies to watched. then again, it is still better to watch the original version than the remake.

I haven't seen the movie, but I've seen the play. It hardly counts as your "normal" show, but it really does show lots of the problems with pain, envy, and revenge. when I was in London in 1995 we did a bus tour and the guide pointed out where the house that he lived in had been.

I absolutely loved the imagery, and the costumes, and all the visual stuff; as I love most of Tim Burton's stuff like that. But the songs weren't very impressive t me. I thought they lacked some "umph" and strength.

I loved Sweeney Todd! Haha. Well, yes, it was more on the darker side for a movie, let alone a musical. But in my opinion, that's what makes it so much more interesting. The songs were also fabulous, and the actors were just as great. Then again, I must admit that you need to have a pretty strong gag reflex to stomach the things you'll see in the movie. Hahaha. Another funny thing is that now I actually think twice before getting my hair cut! Demon barbers.. Ha! xoxo, ajhie!

I loved the movie. I agree, it was definitely dark...but I was blown away by Johnny Depp's voice. I love practically any movie with Johnny Depp, or with Alan Rickman, and they both just made this movie for me.
