We lease a dodge caliber from Chrysler. We got a letter in the mail saying that ups had lost a data disk that was being sent to a third party credit reporting agency ( I can only assume the credit bureau). The disk contained our Names, address, social insurance numbers (same as social security for the US) and of course our payment history, which is good. They say this tape can not be read by any other party. They also reported themself to the provincal and federal privy council. It still makes me nevervous to think this has happened. They said it never happened before and they have added measures so it will never happen again. How would you feel if this happened to you?

Hi linda345! I guess, I will be kinda worried because so much information is there in that data disk. However, if they will assure me that everything will be fine and that they are doing everything they can to recover it and not happen again..I think I can relax a little bit. However, if that data disk will be in the wrong hands and the information was uncovered and it was used for somebody else's selfish interests, they should guarantee me that they will be responsible for it all. So, I think I will keep that mail from them for record purpose just to make sure that they will be responsible and be accountable to what they have lost and the consequences that I might have from their negligence. Take care and have a nice day!

That would annoy me quite a bit...you'd think they would be extra careful with information like that. But since they claim it can't be read by anyone else I would just be glad they were honest with me about the situation. I'd still probably look into those free credit reports or something just to make sure the information didn't fall into the wrong hand...crooks can be smarter than we give them credit for.

At first I would be upset and a bit scared that it would fall into the wrong hands but as the days go by I would probably forget about it. I think the company are covering themselves letting you know about it.
