Chickens are laying supersize eggs!

In the UK, Phil and Elaine Armitage's hen Chicken Tikka laid an egg twice the size of what you might find in the supermarket. Not only was it huge, it was polka dotted.
*“We were stunned,” said Phil. “We have had big ones before but this one is an absolute stonker.”
*
In Evansville, Illinois a farmer found a strange looking egg that was not only double normal size and oddly colored, but had ridges on it.
*
The one thing these two chickens have in common was they both lived through Earthquakes in their respective areas. Their owners believe that they were effected somehow by them. Why the effects caused the laying of gigantic eggs is a mystery.

I thought at first this was a joke, especially the polka dotted egg, but reading on I think there might be some connection to the earthquake. If it is true then I think it must have been painful for the poor chickens!
Maybe the earth tremors caused a delay in laying process and created a deformed egg. It does seem more than a coincidence that both these strange eggs were layed in similar circumstances.

I was thinking the same about the poor chickens because ordinary eggs are a painful business. But I think your right. Who knows what's going on in the wild nests of those areas.

I wonder what would happen if a plus sized egg was fertilized? A plus sized chick? I wonder if we are going to see more very weird things in the next few weeks...
