Like those of us on frugal budgets have done for years - just to make ends meet - they are now saying it should be done, because food prices are esculating rather rapidly! THey mention wheat and rice, but of course not the grand daddy of all "reasons" - high fuel prices to deliver the food. http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/104914/Load-Up-the-Pantry INteresting that they compared the prices of saving on food to interest rates on CD's and savings accounts. FInally, they have seen it our way - the common, sensible, everyday way that we have all known! So what is you plan of attack to scale that mounting army of high prices at your grocery store so you can feed your troops? It is just me to feed at the moment, but I also have 2 kids who each have a child where times have hit hard so I try to help them and when I see things on sale Ill pick up enough for all of us. My favorite plan is Walgreens. THeir Sunday ads are like gold! I just recently got Kraft (the family most absulute favorite ) Mac nad Cheese for 59¢. In stores on sale occassional, very occasstional 10/$10. But with their coupon I could get 4 boxes (They do have limits) at 59¢ each. Campbells soups the same, so many things. So with 2 Walgreens on the way ato my grand daughters school, I taky her, stop at one Walgreens, pick up the limit on sale items, and then stop at hte next one and do the same. I take her 3 days a week and can do this every day if I need to! Even stop after I pick her up! You are a customer every time you walk into the store. So I am not "breaking" any rules. YOu say the price of gas to stop and start 4 times like that, first, you gotta give a little sometimes. Do you stop while at a drive thru? THey say that takes more than just sitting htere idoling. But still, what little gas it costs, the savings out way. I also shop the grocery store (the one I go to is the lowest price with the largest selection so I usully just go to it, although there is a second placer near me too that I watch) and they have been having 10/$10 sales on canned foods and soups. Dollar a can -look at the regular price of chicken noodle soup or vegetable beef - all way over a dollar. So I'll buy 10 for me, and 10 for each kid. Limits often apply, but again, since this store is right on the way taking my GD to school, I can stop every day! There is a bulk food store near me, but I have checked that one out - and quite frankly, I don't see the prices are so low that it is worth it for a person like me. I've done the math. Yes, I could buy a bulk package of something and it'd last me all year long but then I have to store it. If I just buy as I need that item, I minght spend 2 dollars more, but would have the pantry space to store other things that are more needed. Their meats are almost twice as high as this Ralphs grocery I go to and I just have not seen it to be worth it. Now that is just my opinion and how it works for me, might be different if you have a large family. So everyone come on and share your ways of saving on your grocery budget and your plans for feeding you familys during this upcoming high food price time.
