Would you ever defy your boss if he/she asked you to do something you didn't ag

I have done this several times already. I almost lost my job because of this. If I knew that what is asked of me is wrong, I would say NO and would do what is right. How about you? Would you ever defy your boss if he/she asked you to do something you didn't agree with?

If my boss asked me to do something blatantly wrong I would not do it. Now it's one thing if they ask me to do something that isn't directly in my job description but is something I could do. In that case it goes under that little clause of "Other duties as assigned". That though is a different situation. I quit one job because they wanted me to do something I hadn't been trained in. They stated if their were any problems "We'll look out for you". Yeah, didn't believe them either. I wasn't going to take a chance. I left; I wasn't going to risk having someone throwing me in jail. I also had another place where they wanted me to do medical treatments I wasn't allowed to. I refused. I wouldn't work at that group home while they required it. They accepted my choice. You have to watch out for yourself in these situations and if they don't like it then it's time to move on.

Every job I've ever had always has that little clause at the bottom. Never fails.

i have actually done this. my boss and i have agreed and disagreed on so many things. the good thing about him was that he was open minded, we always talk things out and he never holds grudges when you are straightforward and tells him things about him that we do not appreciate, and he knows how to giv thanks to those who gives him the respect he deserves. i guess when people are truly intelligent, no matter how much you disagree with them or totally ignore them, they won't be insecured or won't be bothered because they know at the end of the day if they made a decision, they have more chances of winning. when i do not want to do what my boss wants me to, he would give me reasons and try to convince me why this and that and those things must be done. he is not the type that orders around and does not seek help from others.

hmmm... yes. i am a singer as you know already and i know you know that this business of ours stink. there are a lot of singers or band members go out with costumers after a show, some for a cup of coffee or to eat out and some for you know what i mean. sorry but i am not one of them. i dont even go out to eat or to drink coffee. once my work is over i go home. but of course some boss will force you to do that for the sake of big time costumers or friends. i lost my job, but i dont care i lost my job but with pride that i am not dirty. i wont do something because someone just want me to do it, even if he is my boss. i may not type the right words here dolce but i know you know what i mean.

I have refused to do what my boss told me to do. I thought his decition was illegal and imoral, and I did not want my name to be on the decition. In the end he had the choise of doing it himself, or ordering me to do so in writing. he then changed his mind and we did it my way. I will not break the law or be party to something I feel is imoral or harmful. I'd rather find a new job than do that. I would be fired with my head held high, and it would be a pleasure talking about it.

There were times in my personal experience, when I did tell in no certain terms that I can not do what he told as it was not proper by any means. Things have changed so much over the years that most of the times we are in situations where it is other way round.Red tapism and favouritism have become so rampant that it would be a wonder if we do a correct thing ! Can you believe ? By the rule book what boss does is wrong. They blame it on the system. If somebody does not follow what the boss says will be shifted to different places or revenged upon.In our part of the world especially in Governments, saying NO to a boss tantamount to an unofficial crime for which the punishment would be cruel.

dear dolce-vita78. In work situation it is possible as always you will not get good boss. In my service life I have seen atleast 20 boss and all are different in nature such as one is very strict in administration , other is very loose, one is punctual other is not attending office regularly Somehow we have to manage. I never defy my boss rather I tried to convince him which one is right and which is wrong. Moreover I am very straight forward person I never like all such hoch poch. Some time we may differ but immediately I tried to patch up. If he is adamant in his decision I simply leave his chamber with the remarks let us hope for the best. pkc3000

Yes! Definitely! In fact, there was a time in the past when I really put my job on the line. I almost lost my job. But I just had to stand my ground on certain issues even if it means losing my job. Just recently, it again happened. I am glad though that after explaining my side to my boss, she understood.

Hi dolce_vita. The first time I worked after graduation, I had this lady boss who was so demanding. I worked for the government before and this lady boss of mine assigned me on the field and make surveys on 3 municipalities that are remote and not really safe for a young lady like me at that time. I was to be assigned with a co worker on this project but almost all my co workers were swamped with their own work load. I have to go alone upon her order but I defied her. I told her it is against the policy of our office but she insisted because she needs to have the reports immediately for she is going to submit them in the national office. I didn't agree and she was really so angry that she is going to report me for insubordination but she didn't push through with it. I have a good reason for not obeying or complying, my safety is at risk and it is against the policy of our office that we go alone on assignments like that. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day.

Yes, I do that, thats why my boss and me usually got some arguments. I say to him what is right no matter what. I am not afraid, I know I am right, I have my job security and he is an appointee only. I hate him most of the time because he dont know how to be manager most of the time. And he has his favorite. And I dont like it. But we are civil with each one.

it would depend on why i did not agree. if its morally wrong then most likley i would not do it but if its just some random policy or way of doing something then i would probably do it

yes of course i will defy, it 's not a proper way of obeying all command that you know it is wrong and against your will. I am lucky before when i work in a certain company my boss is so kind and understanding.

I would have to say that it would depend on whether the something I disagree with is due to the possibility of getting me into trouble or breaking my moral code or if I just didn't want to do it. If I thought I would get into trouble or break my moral code, I wouldn't do it. I also wouldn't do something that would hurt someone else. So, basically, yes...if I disagreed with something my bosses told me to do, I wouldn't do it and, if it meant that I would get fired, I would just have to say I wasn't meant to work in that kind of peer pressuring environment anyway.

Yup, if it I disagree on my boss then most likely, I don't really get to do it. Though, I didn't get to the point that I am close in being fired being as much as possible, I really really explained to him why I can't do it. Luckily, they understand. Cheers!
