Chicken pox is a highly contagious disease and generally children are infected with it. Its incubation period is 10-21 days. Throughout I've seen only children infected with this disease but you'll be surprised to know that I caught infection at the age of 49 from a child of 9 years.A person usually has only one episode of this disease in life, that's what experts say. Did you or anyone in your family get infected with it?Was it very irritating for the patient because of the rashes all over the body?

Both my oldest daughter and I got it when we were babies, so we are taken care of it. My youngest got the vaccine, so I hope she doesn't get it. I felt so bad for my oldest when she had it. I had to put socks on her hands to keep her from scratching her face. She managed to scratch right above her left eye, she's almost 12 now and has a scar that looks like a snake bite above her left eye.

Hello Chertsy!Itching gets really unbearable and doing so unfortunately they cause permanent scars thats why one has to be extra careul. I still have marks though light on my face. Sometimes when I see my face in mirror in bright light I can see many tiny scars . But never mind atleast God has given me good health.

I am now 47 and got chicken pox when I was 21 years old. I got it from a four-year-old child whose mother had the "kindness" or stupidity to send her to a church preschool when she had sores on her from the chicken pox. She was crying. I picked her up to comfort her not knowing what she had on her and I got it. I had the first sores showing on the day of a panel interview for a scholarship. I got the scholarship but ended up exposing everyone in the process unknowingly. I then had to call everyone to let them know I was exposed. The itching, the fever, the feeling like Job from the Bible or like a leper as no one wanted to be near me for fear of catching the disease, was no fun. Missing class too was not fun. I stayed home until the last sore healed. I was not going to infect anyone else as it was not at all fun. I have heard of some people who have gotten this disease more than once. I have also heard that in some people the virus that causes chicken pox can cause shingles which I have heard is an extremely painful condition. I am glad to say that I have not had chicken pox or shingles since that time... knock on wood all of us will remain free of them. I'm sorry that you contracted chicken pox at your age... Hoping that you had some calamine lotion as it helped me quite a bit.

Thanx whiteheron for your concern. I can understand your situation since I've gone through the same phase. My kids are away to another country. I would make my hubby sleep in another room. Day in and day out I would be confined to my room and alerted our relatives not to visit our place. Only knowing to people was enough as then nobody would even think of visiting me. But it was not fortunately as bad as I heard it happens in the later age. Thank God.

Scratchy - Looks like a chiken pox.
I had it when I was 17 years old and I was in college. I think I got it from my nephews who just had this disease. They were 3 brothers in their primary school years and they got it one after the other. I went to their house one Sunday afternoon and when I went back to school the followig day I saw a blister between my clavicles. I was very uncomfortable especially when it got so hot in the high time of the day. Oh, how they itch. My mother put cornstarch powder to ease the itchiness and they dried quicly too. Luckily I didn't get so much on my face, arms and lower legs. They only appeared in my torso. That is why when I went back to school two weeks later nobody could guess why I was away.

It was horrible and almost unbearable I was crying desperately. It's good my mother came and when she put cornstarch powder, the itchiness stopped all at once. A few hours later, they had dried.

My doctor advised mr to wash the face and dab other parts of the body with coconut water. It had a very soothing effect at that time.

I got chicken pox and measles at the same time when I was about six or seven. My brother got it, he got scars and they disappeared. Mine remained on my forehead. It was very itchy. Oh if you have chicken pox, you will still get shingles when you are older, especially when you are under stress or being criticized unjustly. That is why so many women in their sixties and seventies get it, because of the stress of life.

Hi comfort55, I believe I had chicken pox when I was a young boy. I remember my mother being very concerned. I have never heard of an adult getting it, and thought it was just a childhood disease. Blessings.

I was told that my siblings and I all got chicken pox, comfort, but I was too young to remember anything about the experience. I do, however, recall when my 3 children got the illness. They came down with it each one day after the other. It was horrible for them because the itching from the break-outs was so bad. I was sooo happy when they finally got over them.

I was very young and just starting school and I remember the teacher told me I had chicken pox and called my mother to take me home. My mother always treated us very well when we were sick. She would put us in P.J.s and we could sit and watch TV all we wanted and she fed up really our favoriate stuff to eat plus candy and treats...if it was a cold she would rub vicks on us and put on a flannel cloth keep our chest warm as possible...the best part was we could sleep in and not have to go to school. One time I faked being sick and she knew it but she made me stay in bed all day..lol..but it was worth it as I was probably tired and wanted the extra ZZZZ's but we could not get out of going to church to easy...this was a big NO NO

Luckily i got it once when i was a kid.. haha.. The feeling wasn't so much of feeling sick, but rather terrible because i cant eat alot of nice things and cant go out to play during that period of time lasting up til 3 weeks.. ANd the most unbearable moment will be the time when i'm recovering, when the chicken pox are drying up and the it will be very very itchy and yet i cant scratch it as i will leave scars on my body.. That's a terrible experience for me.. But i'm also glad that i got it when i was a kid.. hehe

Ya, people say that its better to have chicken pox at a young age as one tends to recover fast. You are right, recovering time is the most difficult when itching becomes unbearable and you are not allowed to itch .

But getting it when we are older isn't too bad too, as we will know how to control ourselves more..

i had chiken pox when i was probably around 14. my brother caught it first. we had no idea where he got it from though. i didnt know what it was until there were a lot of dots growing and until my parents said it was chicken pox. then my dad caught it. suprisingly he didnt have a lot of dots all over him, but he had fevers a lot. and then it was spread to me and my sister. i hated the pox, it was all over literally! it was everywhere, on my body on my sister, brother, father. lol. the only person who didnt get the pox was my mom and my nanay, amazingly. it was a difficult time, watching my family having dots all over made me itchy and made me wanna scratch it so bad, but you know that you just cant do it.. it was like a ripping my hair moment lol... but it was sort of fun being sick together. hahaha... we all stayed home for a week! tinkering on the internet, watching tv together getting fevers together. but chicken pox is one experience i dont wanna have to repeat. thank god you only get it once! :)

i've been told that i had chicken pox when i was 1 or 2 years old. since i was still very young when i had it, i kept scratching the rashes in my arms. the rashes i scratched scarred and became flat and light colored keloids. Everyone in my family had it before puberty, except my elder sister, who had it when she was 18. my niece had it when she was 4, but the spots in her body were so few and none had scarred. Some doctors say that people who get chicken pox or measles as adults would have it worse than people who had it as children. My sister says the rashes could become very itchy, but the thing is, you shouldn't scratch because it could scar. ask the doctor if they can give you something for the itch. the number of rashes varies from person to person, and sometimes, more rashes would appear in one part of the body.

Being too young it would have beendifficult time or your mom to control you when you itch as you were unable to understand its consequences.

I had chicken pox when I was eight years old. It is so hard to have one, but its a good thing I got it when I was young. Also, a few days later, my sisters got infected by it as well. All of us missed school for almost a month, as much as I remember.

I had chicken pox as a young child of around age 3 - but as an adult I have had what is called shingles which is from the same virus as chicken pox, but quite painful causing intense burning sensations. Shingles will follow a nerve line and sometimes go to the eye and cause blindness.

My 6 years old daughter had chicken pox last year. I agree that its contagious because she got it from her friend in school. I noticed it when it stared to have, about maybe three or four on her face and I bought her to a doctor immediately. After taking medicine her rashes are not much so I'm not really irritated by them.

I had chicken pox when I was in the third grade. I remember it well because my class had a field trip to go see Mary Poppins, and I could not go, instead of missing a regular, stupid school day I had to miss a field trip to a movie! I was so upset that when I recovered my mom took me to see it. A point of note: if you have chickenpox when you are a kid, you can get shingles when you are older. They have a shot you can get to prevent this but it's expensive.

Chicken Pox is something that i have went through and never ever ever would like to go through again. It is so so uncompfortable. I had it when i was like in the 5th grade. I mean you couldnt scratch lose of appetite. And with me i was always hott and i didnt want anything rubbed up agaisnt me or on me. My mother scolded me to NOT SCRATCH WHATSOEVER. Looking back on it now, i am glad that she stressed that so much, because i have seen a lot of peopple with rough skin and marked skin. Its not an enjoyable experience, you lose sleep, you lose weight (Not such a bad thing for some). But i didnt have it as worse as some people do, i was fortunate enought to have them all in my mouth and nose like so many children and adults have. I hear that it is worse as you get older. Its better to have it as a child than an adult. But now ther are so many vaccinations for it and you cant go to school or college if you dont have this shot. So its very seldom that you hear of children having it nowadays!!

Ya punkin having chickenpox is a very painful experience. For days and days you are unable to see people since its highly contagious. Itching gets unbearable and you can't itch for the fear of getting permanent scars. A horrible experience. I wish nobody gets exposed to this disease.
