I am currently enrolled in online college and am going completely of financial aid. I just got $2800 for my federal pell grants from my school last month because my financial aid councelor had really messed up my account and I missed my October disbursement and my january disbursement. Anyway theis morning on his way to work my bf went and checked the mail and in the mail was another check for $2155. Now as far as I know I am not scheduled for any further disbursements until October, so here is my question. What would you do?

hmmm...did the first check for $2800 cover both the past missed disbursements and the current one? Or would the total of the two checks be the right amount? Grants, unlike loans, don't have to be repaid. But you don't want to find out they made another mistake and want the check back and then have already spent the second check. Figure out how much total student aid you were entitled to for the year and match it up with the checks before spending too much of it.

If the two checks total up to your missed earlier disbursements, then I'd say you are fine. However, if you don't know why this second check has arrived, then check with your councelor before spending any of it, because they could make you return the money if it was sent by mistake. Or, if your councelor has a habit of screwing things up, you could call the grant agency directly to make sure (be sure to get the persons name you speak to and write down the details of the call, in case you need to CYA later on).
