I used to always keep a log book for the day, and make a list of what needs to be done for the next day, the next week, etc. I used to be very good at planning out my time. I knew about how long each thing would take, and usually I was always pretty close to right. Planning is a habit, it might take some getting used to, but then all good habits worth cultivating will become "routine" in time. I think it makes life go a lot easier when I make planning an automatic response, rather than thinking it a chore I keep a 8 1/2 X 11 inch notebook. It has pockets in the front and the back and also the 3-ring binder part. I jokingly have it labelled "Mom's Brain", and heaven forbid I should mislay it. I kept a calendar in the 3 ring part, and I'd keep every event for the day listed. (Family birthdays...in red, anniversaries, dog's monthly medicine, upcoming outings with the girls, etc) I could clearly see just by looking at the calendar whether I had time for something extra or not. The front pocket holds what I'm going to do today...there might be a bill that needs paid, and I always have a sheet of paper with it all listed out on what I want to accomplish. The back pocket I throw tomorrows stuff in. I have an envelope in the 3 ring part, that's big enough to hold receipts in case I have to take a gift back because it was the wrong size, etc. I no longer multi-task scads of things on the same day, I still find it handy to have it all in one place.
