We just have reformatted a vista laptop with came with only a recovery CD. We cannot make the recovery CD to work and used a different vista installer but used the same license key and it worked, however we don't know where to get the missing drivers. Did we do wrong? Or we should have used the recovery CD? Help....

As some members have already suggested, you can visit the manufacturer's website and look for your laptop under the Support section. This should provide all the relevant drivers for you. Some laptops actually use a hidden non DOS partition to store the image that is used to restore your laptop, so you may find help on the website to access the partition and recover the drive.

Well you should use the recovery CD, yes. Are you sure it's not a DVD? Many times you have to make the recovery CDs/DVD yourself and the manufacture won't provide it for you. Since you already reinstalled Vista, you should look on the manufactor's website (example HP, Sony, Toshiba, etc), look up your model of laptop, and then download all the drivers. You'll probably have to do it from a different computer because you probably can't get the laptop to work. Then you need to install all the drivers to make your laptop work better. Don't worry about it.. Pablo

Thanks... I scanned the Recovery CD and the contents are bunch of files I am not familiar with. Also the CD doesn't boot... All it did was display a cursor on a black screen. By the way the Laptop was already not booting when I tried to use the Recovery CD.

Wow, then I guess your recovery CD or computer just didn't like the information on the CD. Then definitely download the drivers for Windows Vista and see if that works. Pablo

You should go to the manufacturer's website to download all the necessary drivers & make sure the correct Windows OS drivers. It's good to know the exact type & model no. of your laptop as that will help a lot.
