When I saw this discussion it immediately conjured up some fond memories. If you have ever lived in Jamaica up to the late 1980's early 1990's, then you would know that more than 70% of student going to school would walk and that was the norm. I use to walk to school every day, it didn't seem all that long or boring because all of the children in the neibghour hood would gather on that walk ot school. It would normally take me a good 15 minutes to walk to school and that is if we did not stop to play or got up to some sort of mischief. In 1988 I had to change my school because of a major hurricane that hit the island, this time I still had to walk to school and it would now take me no less than half an hour. I only attended that school for one year and return to my previous school the next year. So it was th norm for me to walk to school along with a bunch of other kids, but it was not the worst thing to do because we had fun doing it.

When I was a child at primary school I walked there with my mum. Then I went by coach to my secondary school like my older sister had done before me. When I was 16 I lived at the college in halls of residence. I had my own room overlooking the River Thames. I spent the week there studying and caught the train home at weekends. When I went to university I walked or took the bus to the campus that I was studying at. These days I am a primary school teacher and know that some children walk to school and other children come by car that is driven by a parent.

I mostly walked to school. elementary was i block away. high school was 1 mile away. i always walked . however junior high was further so i carpooled in the morning and there was a variety of walking back, carpooling and sometimes taking a bus. but mostly i walked. and i was in better condition than most. everyone else was spoiled and got rides everywhere.

Me and my sister used to walk from our rented house to the school. My parents house is far from the town where we were in High School and we only go home every Friday! But, if we got an extra money, every noon since it's very hot already, we use to ride, we called it"potpot", a bicycle with a side car,and can accomodate only 2 people!

Mylot - A graphic I made in PS
When I was in pre-school and primary (elementary) school my dad used to drive me to school as it was along right work route. For high school, my parents hired a van to take me to school along with about 14 other kids (think of it like a mini bus) and luckily it wasn't packed like someone said theirs was! I traveled a few times as well, but this was very rare. I wish I could have traveled more, but it would have been to much of a hassle and I would probably reach to school late and get home at horrible hours in the evening!

When I was in elementary, I used to go to school via school bus. Then when I went to high school and college, I learned how to ride Jeepney, it's a public transportation here in the Philippines.

For 9 years in the school I ride a school bus. Never to keen to like a school bus cause we the kids were jam pack like a bunch of books pressed together. Then when I was in high school, I just walked to my school cause its was near my house. Only about 3 minutes from school. Very convenient.
