Hoo~AH SCOTUS!
The official line of the Democrat party has been "Voter ID will disenfranchise the poor, the elderly and the indigent". I notice not one Democrat politician ever bother expounding on that meaningless line. Especially when you notice that almost every government program the Democrats seem to embrace REQUIRES ID! Why? To prove eligibility for benefits.
Hmmm, isn't it just as important to prove eligibility to vote?
Either way, good on the Supreme Court for finding that ID requirements don't violate the rights of voters. Of course, Justices Ruth "Buzzy" Ginsberg, Souter and Breyer towed the party line. A suprizing vote from Stevens put it 6 to 3.
Voter ID isn't the end all be all of election integrity, but this is a definite win for election integrity.

I have to say that I agree! Most folks in the country have an ID! So the only problem I see with voter I.D. requirement is if ya want to pull off a fraud!

That's why the DNC is afraid of voter ID requirements. It cuts into their voter fraud vote.

This is a big win for electoral integrity, and I found it highly amusing that the democrats opposed making it harder to commit voter fraud.
I guess we know what their voter base consists of...
Now if we could only figure out a way to ensure political integrity.

For the good or the bad of it, the Supreme Court can't rule on personal integrity. ;~D

No, they can't.... however a mob of villagers with torches, pitchforks, and clubs have been known to.

The only disenfranchised voted would be an illegal alien. Who else would be disenfranchised by having to show a drivers license. What about those too poor to afford a drivers license, what about them. I am tired of everything being for the poor. How many people really cannot afford a drivers license? Steven voting with the majority just proves that a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while.

Well, as a point of order, since illegal aliens are here illegally, and aren't citizens, they can't (by definition) be "disenfranchised".
The "poor" on the other hand, do have the right to vote, so nothing should stand in the way of them exercising that right. States should make IDs available for those who can't afford to pay. That would end the "some of the poor don't have IDs".
See how easy that was? ;~D

Hello Gewcew and ParaTed,
Just as a point of interest, when the GOP of my state initiated legislation for 'voter-ID', the Dem. Party and the ACLU fought it on the grounds that it would disenfrachise the poor, who could not afford a picture ID.
The GOP countered with a compromise that all that would be necessary to prove one's identity was a copy of a birth certificate OR a Social Security card (which I think is still free), AND a recent power bill.
The ACLU still fought it on the grounds that the poor couldn't afford the $3 for the copy of the birth certificate, and that some seniors may not have ever had a birth certificate. So the GOP countered with just the electric or gas bill, which the ACLU still fought-- and ultimately got a judge to rule in their favor, on the grounds that there may be the occassional person who lives totally off the grid. It was one of the craziest legal battles I remember in the longest time.
Incidentally, when I signed up for power many years ago, I had to provide a SSN and a copy of my drivers license. So, according to the Democrat Party & the ACLU -- it's OK to demand verifiable ID to obtain access to electricity, but not to vote.
What other conclusion could be drawn, but that the Dem. Party very much values illegal voting?

That's like here in Wisconsin. King Doyle has vetoed 3 voter ID bills, spewing the same stupidity about how it would "disenfranchise" the poor and elderly.
But the same Governor-who-would-be-king has signed onto laws that require ID for buying some over the counter medication. The Wisconsin Democrats also require IDs for voting in internal party decisions.
It's nothing but a lie spread by people who gain from voter fraud.
