Your limit on the number of cats that you would own?

Long ago, I said that I would not even think of owning more than three cats, and for awhile, that worked. I refused to visit shelters. And every so often, I'd leave food out for strays --- until Maxie came along. He was the friendliest cat and he is getting acclimated to staying in my house for good.
So let's say that one or two cats are absolutely, positively the only number of cats you'd own. Would you make any exceptions and take in another cat?

I have to say that I once had a limit on the amount of cats I had, but that went out the window a long time ago. I have 10 cats in my house, 8 of them were rescued. I have to find them homes because I'm planning on going to grad school and selling my house. And I have the feeling that there's no way I could take all of them with me.
