I highly recommend you this site http://freepatterns.thedesignersnetwork.com/ They have a newsletter that is sent around twice a month that you can subscribe to for free. You need to have a Yahoo account then subscribe to their Yahoo group. The site also have links to sites with free patterns and a gallery of their own. You can also request a particular pattern and they might grant your request.

you can search for free patterns too at www.yahoo.com so many sites offering free patterns. and there's an installer called PCStitch you can download it free and start making patterns of your favorite picture or image but you have to print it because you can't save it unless you buy the real version of it. hope this helps;)
