It's called Open Office, just go to OpenOffice.org to get it. Go to wikipedia and look up OpenOffice.org to learn more about it. I love it and I'm glad to have something for free instead of paying for the EXACT same thing from Microsoft!

How would you compare the interface? Do we have to allot sometime to learn it? How long? Hi Tipsyflash hope you don't mind me asking, I am very interested with anything free.)

It's very similar to Microsoft word, not the brand new one which I cannot figure out, but the slightly older one. It's definitely easy to figure out and there are tons of tutorials about it. If you like it, tell your friends about it... no-one should have to pay for this type of software!

So it's easy to learn and use. What about files? Can we open/edit/save them and use it interchangeably with MS Office?

Actually, yes! You can. That's what I love because my business partner uses excel and since I have open office, I can open document she sends me that she makes through excel. Also the other programs accept microsoft type files as well.

I would certainly not refer to Open Office as being exactly like Microsoft Office. It is true that it will perform roughly the same functions and I also agree that it is a very good office suite, but Microsoft Office is without doubt the dominant program. If I did not possess Microsoft Office then I would happily use Open Office, but with the choice I shall definitely stick with Microsoft.

Now I'm using OpenOffice.org. We call it OO.o. It's better than Microsoft Office. And Koffice is also a great software. I't free, too.
