Many people now a days think that God is inside us and it is not necessary to go to any temple, mosque, church etc to find God... or to read big religious books when you don't even understand them. Do we follow a religion only with the fear that what will happen to our dead body after death .... Please give your comments ...this is just a discussion.

Good questian, many claim to live by the words in the bible but have no idea what the book realy says. They just select parts that seem to back up their points of veiw or their denominations veiw point. Do we need God, Hum,,,,,Does one need air to breath? does one need God to be able to transend this life to the next? Do we need organized religion? I say no, what have they done for God lately. Do we need the books? Unless you read them for your self and quit letting some guy in a funny robe tell you what it says and interpet it for you why even bother owning a bible, Read the book yourself, preferably in origanal languge with paralel word for word translation.

hi freethinkingagent, Thanks for the clarification. Yes I agree with you. I too feel sometimes that books were written by people like you and me ( may be bit wiser than us) but still man is man and can make mistakes, so lets believe in ourselves. Have a nice day.

Mainly that we do need God, but I am not for organized religion. And as for holy books, what use are they if they are collecting dust and we depend on some to tell us their interpetaion of what their denomination says it says.

There may be many reasons for it Apsara. The person who says this may wants to show off that he is different and rational. That person might not have met a calamity in his life to go running to a temple mosque or church. That poor guy might have been tortured by his over zealous parents to be pious. That person might not have reached the sandhya days of his life where everyone starts to believe in God invariably though they don't admit it.

Hi Bala, yes it is true that when a person gets lot of happiness easily without any hard work or struggle, then he gets over confident and proud, and starts thinking this way. And such a person comes back to his senses when he suddenly meets with bitter experience of life........and automatically his footsteps move to the direction of God. You are right Bala, life will teach such people to choose right path. Thanks for your reply. I am happy you and me are simple people and believe in everything that is good.

I go to a religious place (church, temple) because of the sanctity of the place and the peace it gives me....not necessarily for God. I read religious books (of all religions) to understand what the religion is all about and to know what it preaches. I am personally of the belief that the belief in God is in the mind and one doesn't necessarily need to go to any religious place to find God. But it's each person's viewpoint and if visiting a religious place is to going to give them some peace of mind, then that's what is best for them.

I feel it's the ambience there. The world around is full of noice...but when we go to a religious place, everything is set up to bring us peace and we relax....the incense, the music, the bells or whatever it is that they have, it all gives us the feeling of peace in our mind...even the architecture...the recitings.

Going to temples, mosques and churches is again a matter of 'faith', I would say. Those who go to temples etc. would give arguments in support of their move and those who prefer not to go to such place would furnish their arguments in their support. What I personally feel is, in the olden times, there were a community feeling, people used to relate with each other, they used to give respect and regards to each other, there used to be a invisible bond between them, which slowly got eroded. They used to follow each other's advice and suggetions, they were of the view that we are supposed to follow what a whole community follows. However, now a days, people have become self-centred. Nuclear family system has come up. Life has become so fast and busy that people are not able to spare their time for going to temples etc. They feel that whatever spare time do they have, in that spare time, they should accomplish some other important tasks. I think those who go to temples etc. religously should not look down upon others with hate and vice versa. I mean to say, if my better half wishes to go to a temple, she should not force me to go to that temple along with her, if I am unwilling. And I also should not ask her not to go to temple, we should have liberty and independence to follow our beliefs and faith.

I have to take your side, meaning thereby I have to agree with your ideas in support of a rose and a teddy bear and I would immediately agree with your views, without any fuss, because your ideas very quite logical and meaningful. You goto heaven by believing and not by religion. If you believe that you are saved then you will be going to a greater reward. No church can get you in to heaven nor will any religion.

I don't believe in "God" as such, but I am quite spiritual I suppose, I believe in a lot of adopted principles from other religions and apply them as I see fit to my own life and mindset. Obviously I don't attend any religious ceremonies etc, but I also don't see why it's necessary (although of course some people enjoy and wish to) to participate in church mass, and worship of your chosen religion. The important thing, as far as I'm concerned, is that you believe, and it fulfils you in your life and happiness, and not so much some organised religion that tell you how you should honour your God/deity, their interpretation of religious texts etc. Again, this is only my personal opinion. I really don't like it when people of the same religion as another to look down their nose at believers who don't want to attend church/temple etc, and choose to honour, believe and worship in their own time and in their own way, which I've seen happen really often in the local Christian society where I live. Apparently if you don't donate your spare change to the church and say Amen at the end of a sermon, you're not a true believer and that to me seems ridiculous. People are different, and obviously do things in their own way =D Really interesting discussion, thanks for starting it, Apsara =D Have a great day.

Hi Malyck........I did like what you have written here as I feel lot of honesty in your reply. I do believe in God and the rest I agree with you.....as long as we are not hurting any body or disrespecting any religion, I think we have not done any sin. All that I want to say is that I agree with you and I am very much like you. Have a nice day.

Even if you think there is no God, please don't say it....you are too young.....you never know when where and how you will suddenly get the proof and then you will feel sorry....let's all be simple humble people .........because if there is no proof for existence of God, then there is also no proved proof of absence of God.....as you will grow you will understand.......this is what I tell my children and this is what I will tell you.

the most important is believing in god and our personal (and collective) relationship with him. religion is created to help us deal with that. it enables us to strengthen our belief in god. the regular gathering (in church, mosque, temple etc) enables us support each other among people who have same belief, same "destination". the role can be done not only by religions but also by other spiritual communities.

I believe in One god.I think only believe in god and not believe in any religion is not good.Religion is to guide us to good way. When we try to learn any religion you can see the god's words there. We cannot discriminate ourselves which is good or bad.Becasue oru dicision will change according to time and environment. What i will say is to learn about religions. Then you will find out the right track. Thanks

Potentially it is in definitions. Religion is "Man". It is the definition of and interpretation of man with regard to "faith" and the outward signs of "Faith". It is how we others demand that we signify our "faith" and our "belief". It allowing others to interpret the philosphical writings that are the basis of our beliefs and form the framework and foundation of our faith. Religion allows us to be lazy. What I mean by this is that it enables us to follow others down a path toward "salvation" by placing our "faith" in mans interpretation rather than forcing us to open our true hearts and true minds to what is before us. Faith and Belief on the other hand, or spirituality if you will forces two things upon us. One is that we "Believe" without "proof". The other is that we do the intellectual exercise of reading for ourselves what the books say; word for word in their original format and language. Not the interpretations or translations. But using Translators and research methodologies we read all that is available to us, all the books from all the prophets and determine for ourselves what they really said. Then we return to Faith. G~D never said he resided in a house of four walls. G~D certainly never said build me hundreds of churches and denominations for man to interpret mans will and oh by the way man is right...pick your poison. G~D said I am the way seek me. I personally will never seek man, believe in man, or require man to house my spirit or interpret the Word. G~D provided us Prophets through the line of Moses and Abraham -- Jesus, Muhammed just to name two. We are obligated to seek the word. G~D infused us with spirit and intellect to do so.
