How old were you when you started schooling?

Lately more schools and daycare are opening up and offering advanced subjects to kids and toddlers. I remember when I was just 5 years old when I started going to nursery school and it was just nursery or kindergarten to start schooling. But nowadays, several kid's school are being opened especially for toddlers and lessons keep on advancing. Isnt education for our kids are way to advanced nowadays? Just having the thought. Coz I can see my cousins going to school at a tender age of 3 or 4 and having assignments already. So how old were you when you started schooling? Did you enjoy going to school? « Gab »

I started kindergarten when I was 5. The teacher was horrible; I think that she helped to lay the foundations of my belief in homeschooling (the following 12 grades just cemented that belief).

I started school at six in a kindergarten. At my time there isn't any nursery just kindergarten. Nowadays kids started school at 3 in a playgroup or 4 in a nursery.

We dont have nursery or kindergarden during our days. I am wondering also why kids need to be sent to school to learn at an early stage. And I came to know, mothers and fathers are all working, and instead of having their nanys take care of the kids, teacher can do better.

I was 5 years old when I first went to kindergarten. It was so long ago, I am now 51, I don't remember if I liked it or not. I know my kids were 4 years old when they started nursery school, in the school system, then went to kingdergarten. Now adays I know people who have kids that send them to day care as soon as they are out of diapers. Not that the mother works, but so their kids interact with other kids. So some of them are taking their kids at the age of 2 to daycare, but only one opr two afternoons a week. I guess it also helps the kids learn they don't always have to be with mom.

Here in my place kids are usually sent to nursery at the age of two or three whereas kindergarten is for kids of four and five. When I reached the age of six I then got the chance to enroll as a primary school student. I was very fond of going to school as there I could meet many kids of the same age to play with and with lots of fun of course. I enjoyed very much listening to those attractive tales when having our lessons. I liked the lesson of physical exercises as I could participate in so many interesting games.

i didnt go to pre-school.. i went straight to Primary One... it was not compulsory for parents to send their children to pre-school when i was young... it was only made compulsory a few years back... mostly because the schools had a hardtime on the 1st. day of school - most children just didnt want let go of their parents... and in some cases... it was the way around .. so.. nowadays.. parents are 'encouraged' to send their children to pre-school from the age of 5. two years of pre-school - and they go off to 'real' schools at the age of 7. i luv'd going to school.. didnt have much friends in my neighbourhood (of the same age)... so i really enjoyed going to school.. not just to learn, but to play as well...

I started going to school in a kindergarten within the vicinity of my home when I was 5 years old. I spent two years in kindergarten before starting primary school. Those two years were fun times, where we learned new things, interacted with other children, enjoyed meals and sleeping times in school and have playtimes too in the school playground. Nowadays, in addition to kindergarten, there are also play-schools and nurseries, and some of these are very established, expensive and professionally run schools for little kids. I know I enjoyed my two years very much as a kid, and those two years gave me a head-start over other kids whose parents couldn't afford to send them to kindergartens in those days.

I was 4 when I began nursery school which involved just playing and painting, dancing...fun stuff. I was 5 when I went to kindergarten and things got a bit more serious but not much. I see more and more kids of age 3 going to school and even nursery school is more organized and serious now. I just hope these kids don't get tired of it all before they hit highschool. It seems too young to me. I had a great childhood and I feel that some of these kids are getting slotted into routine way way too soon.

I have forgotten but I think I went to kindergarten at the age of 3 or 4. I was a lazy little brat back then. LOL. My parents had to force me to wake up every morning in order to have me go to school. I didn’t enjoy the school until I entered senior high school grade. Probably because the studying atmosphere there was better than junior high school down to the kindergarten grade. LOL.

I was three years old at the time but that was or should I say is the norm for starting pre-school here. I do think though they need to make it more fun learning than trying to make it more formalised and rigidly structured. (Hope I convied the right idea there).

I was four when I started being homeschooled, I began reading a year later. I think education that young is fine. Kindgarten isn't hard, and the more you can instill the love of learning into a kid the better...have you seen the drop out rates? They're insane.

I was 4 years old when I started schooling. I was in first grade in my kindergarten that time. And as far as I can remember, I was even the second honors in our class that time. That time, I would say that I enjoyed schooling, playing, and making friends.

I Was 5 When I Started Kindergarden, Loved Going And Had No Preschool Or Daycare But All 3 Of My Kids Have Started Pre-k At 4 And Then Went On To Kindergarden. My 4 Year Old Will Be Starting Pre-k This Next School Year And I Hear That The School Systems Here Will Make It Mandatory For Every Child To Attend Pre-k For 4 Year Olds And That They Will Be Starting A Pre-k For 3 Year Olds. I Think That's Way Too Much For These Kids To Understand And Try To Do But Everything Around Us Is Advancing At Such A Rate That I Guess They Feeel It Would Help, Not Hinder. I'm Not Sure What To Think About It All Really.

I was 5 years old when I started schooling. It was for Kindergarten 2. At first, I wasn't enjoying since I'm a very shy kid and I don't know anyone. But when I started to make friends, it was fun. My mom would always help me with my assignments back then.
