I am sure everyone has heard the song Yankee Doodle Dandy. Have you ever wondered what a macaroni was? You know what I mean he sticks a feather in his hat and calls it macaroni. What a idiot Yankee Doodle must have been to stick a feather in his hat and call it macaroni. I have found out though that back in the 1700's calling something macaroni was to call it the height of fashion. So when Yankee Doodle stuck a feather in his hat, he was calling it the height of fashion.

I've heard a tradition that it actually has it's origins in the English Civil War period and started as a Royalist ditty mocking Oliver Cromwell.
