The other day I was at the store and a lady came up to me that manages the little fast food joint in the town not far from us. She asked if my daughter was wanting a part time job. I said yes she talked about wanting a job this summer. So she is bring over an application for her tonight to fill out. She wasn't sure if she could have her work there until she turns 16 because of the cooking. I know Burger King and those places hire 15 year olds but not sure they are able to cook. I guess she is going to check into it. My daughter will turn 16 on June 27th so it isn't that far off. I just can not believe she is old enough to get a job. My oldest daughter always worked for her dad so I never went through this with her. I think I am as excited for her as she is*L* So what did you go through with your first child's first job? Do you know what the laws are for children working in fast food?

In NYstate it is 16 to work in any fast food place. That included McDonalds and BK. My boys(all 3) started working when they were 14 at the locat pizza parlor. It is a family establishment, so they could work under the table. My first one was getting into alot of trouble as a teen and I told him that he had to get a job. I took him to the pizza parlor and at first they paid him to distribute fliers. Then he worked his way up to cleaning the restaurant, then dishes, cook, answering phone and delivery. Since they were so good with my first son, my second decided that he wanted to work there. He started out as the fry guy~ he makes the chicken wings. Then when he turned 16, he started delivering too. My now 14 yr old just started working there too. His first day consisted of cleaning~ not too fun, but he didn't complain. He has been there 3 weeks now and loves it. Last night he was on making subs. I think it is great for teens to get a part time job. They really start to understand the value of money and realize that the money tree they think we all have, doesn't exist. Good luck to your daughter.

i don't have a child yet... so i don't really know the feelings... but i do know here that the youngest age a child can get a job is 15 years old... and also, it is only for 10 hours maxium per weeek... you might want to check with the labor law first as different place has different law... good luck and have a nice day...

My daughter got her first job at 14 at the local burger house, I cried, my baby girl was growing up, she will be 21 this month. If I rememeber right they can work but only a few hours a week, because then you get into child labor laws, theres a place you can check out. I'm sure with everything else on the web they would have that somewhere. Good luck, I know it is hard when our kids grow up :(

wow that's cool! in my country even if we are 16 years old already our parents would not let us get a job unless we would work for them. i don't know any laws for children working in fast foods but i do know that they get free lunch or meals after working for certain hours.
