My 43 year old sister just got braces about two weeks ago and she is miserable. We went out for lunch today and there she sat with greying hair and her teenage teeth. We had sandwiches. She had to cut little bite sized pieces off the sandwich and toss them to the back of her mouth because she can't bite. The good news is she will probably get her braces off before menopause. heheeh

lol That is so cute I'm 27 some ask me why didn't I get them at a younger age and why even bother getting them straigghtened now? but my family couldn't afford it so I've had to wait till I could... Plus I see olot older people with them now, so why not..... I'm only on day 2 and am dying to eat my Normal foods..... I did try to eat as much as I could before I got the braces on because I did expect it would be a while.... I hope it gets easier soon to eat :-) All the Best to Your sister too She is really Brave

Have you called the dentist to ask if this is normal? Perhaps he can readjust them to help with the pain? If there's nothing you can do about it justlook at pictures of movie stars with perect beautiful straight teeth and rememebr that this is what your teeth will look like one day very soon!

lol it is Normal, it's the pressure of them moving. I keep Looking at pics of perfect straight teeth and that does help because that is what I'm aiming for.........

Yes, it hurts a lot when they first put them in. You need to stick to mushy foods for example: milk shakes (how about a Wendy's frosty?), oatmeal, jello, apple sauce, soup, water/juice. It's because they are new and they rub against your mouth, so no solid food for the next few days. Make it a habit to go to Wendy's and get a large frosty Pablo

I had braces for a long time when I was a kid and I hated them. I hated the dentist. My bottom teeth were straight and the top teeth crooked. Now my top teeth are straight and my bottom teeth are crooked. Eventually the inside of your mouth will toughen up and you'll be able to eat again. I say stay with soups and smoothies a little while long, it was only yesterday. Just do what ever the dentist tells you and it will go quicker for you. You might need to go back and get that one wire fixed it sounds like they might have left it a little long or cut it at a strange angle. I hope your pain goes away soon.

I know exactly how you feel. I feel for you. I used to have braces also. I was wearing braces for five years. It was a pain. I have to stay away from bubblegum, softdrinks, candies and hard food. It is just delayed gratification. The results are rewarding. I am happy with my new teeth. Just be patient and you will get used to it. Just remember to brush your teeth three times a day and never miss your apointment with the dentist because it will only prolong the years that you will be having your braces on. Stay away from bubble gum because sometimes your brackets will come off. Tell your dentist to adjust your braces if something is hurting you. Before, something attached to my molars was piercing my tongue and gums and I immediately went to the dentist and had my braces adjusted. Voila! The pain was gone. Good luck!

My daughter is having braces on her teeth for a few months.Last week they have put the wire on the lower teeth. She was complaining of irritation and burning and was suffering for a couple of days.I felt very bad and sorry for her.I just began to hate the suffering they undergo to beautify themselves. But as she becomes normal I justify the act to myself.

I had braces, it takes months to get used to them. Actually, you never really do get used to them.

I have braces right now, it's because my lower teeth/jaw protrudes forward. Aside from having a malocclusion, my upper teeth is like a roller coaster track. when I have my braces for the first time, i didn't experience any pain. Except for the two nights, wherein i could feel my teeth moving. Afterwards, I don't feel like I'm wearing braces any longer, except when I have to do the cleaning thing. I could also eat solid foods, chocolates, junk foods, but don't try gums, it's hard to brush your teeth afterwards. My dentist advice me to take pain killers, if I experience pain, you should try pain killers, but consult your dentist first.
