Of course it's okay =) You can spend your time and attention on anyone you choose to. I saw that you started a discussion on your mum being annoyed about your close relationship with your partner's mum, but you shouldn't let her get to you too much. I understand that she might be a bit insecure/jealous, but she has no right to make you feel bad about what you want to do/who you befriend/who you spend time with etc, especially now that you're an adult. It's actually great that you get along with the mother in law, as it's not the common stereotype. If you find something that you know she'll love, get it, just like you would for your own mother. You're all family. =D

Sure. I always get my boyfriends mother something. I've actually been getting her something every year. We had only been dating a month our first year of dating. I think I got her a card and made a little gift basket with Bath and Body Works items. Last year, I got her a card and gift basket(see a trend?) with a Yankee Candle, Bath and Bosy works lotion and body wash, and a bow of chocolates. This year Ive gotten a card and will continue with the gift basket theme. So far Ive gotten a Yankee Candle(she's obsessed with them, im not just flaking out here), a box of truffles, amd I still need to come up with a few things for her. As for your question, I much prefer to do the gift basket because you can pick smaller things up throughout the year on sale, and them just throw it all togther at the last minute. Since Mother's Day is right around the corner, I would figure out what she likes and what yu want to spend. For the sake of an example, Ill choose $20 total. Go to a dollar store and find a basket to put the stuff in. While you are there, look around, soem dollar stores actually have name brand merchandise(like mine carries Cover Girl makeup). See if there is anything small that will work . Ideas: One of those bath pouff thingys(the name eludes me at the moment) Suntan lotion Cooking supplies if she cooks Candles(be sure to smell them, some of them are quite odd) One of those big lighters to light the candle with Once youve exhausted your dollar store, go to the grocery and load up on candy bars, gum, and mints. Everyone can use those. Stuff all of it into a basket(decoratively stuff of course) and she'll be awed. :)
